Death* | He died on 4 January 1929, at age 66, in Crapaud, Queens County, Prince Edward Island, Canada![]() Obituary in Summerside Journal: "An unusually sad event occurred at Crapaud Friday night. About ten o'clock, Mr. Gavin Walker, a retired farmer passed away. Mr. Isaac Beer, his neighbour, was sent for to go to the house and assist in preparing Mr. Walker for burial. When Mr. Beer was called, he was sitting on the bed reading his Bible, but he at once dressed and went to Mr. Walker's. Here he was suddenly seized with a heart attack and was taken to the doctor's office across the street, where he passed away in less than an hour after Mr. Walker's death. The latter was a retired farmer and was between sixty and seventy years of age. Mr. Beer, who was several years his junior, was a tailor by trade and one of the leading residents of Crapaud, being a prominent member of the United Church and of the Masonic and Orange Orders. The passing of these two highly respected residents under such unusually sad circumstances is being greatly deplored by the people of Crapaud and vicinity.10,11,12,13 |

Obituary (Summerside Journal): "An old and highly respected citizen of Summerside has been called to his rest in the passing of Mr. George Henry Walker, whose death occurred on Friday last at the home of his daughter, Mrs. D. J. McMurdo, Summerside. The deceased, who was 89 years of age, was a native of Kensington and lived for over sixty years in Summerside. He was a carpenter by trade and a man who was held in much regard by all. His wife predeceased him over twenty years ago. The pallbearers were Messrs. A. S. MacKay, Thomas Linkletter, Oliver McNeil, M. F. Schurman, James Harris and Daniel MacLeod." Obituary (Island Farmer): "We record with deep sorrow the death of Mr. George Henry Walker, who passed peacefully away last Friday evening at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. David J. MacMurdo, at the good old age of 89 years, years full of activity and honor and lived the last sixty of them as an upright citizen of Summerside, held justly in the highest regard of all, and they were a host, who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. He was a native of Kensington, a carpenter by trade, and for many years a valued member of the staff of the factory which is now Messrs. M. F. Schurman’s Mill at Summerside. He was the last surviving member of the large family of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Walker of Kensington and leaves to mourn one son, Mr. George P. Walker, and one daughter, Mrs. D. J. Obituary (Summerside Journal): "Mr. Harry Walker, Well-Known Fox Rancher Instantly Killed by Accidental Discharge of a Shotgun A shocking fatal accident occurred this morning at New Annan, as the result of which Mr. Harry Walker, well-known fox rancher of that place, was instantly killed by the discharge of a shot gun. Mr. Walker had been informed of the presence of a skunk in the ranch and taking a shot gun along he proceeded to see if he could despatch the marauder. As he was about to pass through the door of the ranch he laid the shotgun against the wall, when it slipped and in its fall discharged the contents of the gun, lodging in Mr. Walker's head, killing him instantly. Dr. Howatt of Summerside was summoned but nothing could be done. Dr. Howatt is coroner and in view of the evident circumstances of the case decided that an inquest was unnecessary. Members of the R.C.M.P. were also informed of the accident, which occurred about 10:30 a.m., and proceeded to the scene. The body was brought to Summerside and taken to Bowness' Undertaking Rooms. The time of the funeral has not yet been decided. Mr. Walker was about 67 years of age, a man held in high esteem by all who knew him. He is survived by his widow and one daughter, Miss Jean Walker, who is employed in the crockery department of R. T. Holman Ltd., Summerside. Deceased also leaves one brother, Mr. David Walker of New Annan, and one sister, Mrs. Thomas Carruthers, Summerside, to all of whom the profound sympathy of the community will be extended in their sudden bereavement."12,4,13,14 |

Walker in his 45th year one whom P.E.Island might well be proud of. The deceased was a son of the late David Walker of Kelvin Grove, where he lived on the homestead until about sixteen years ago. "When not enjoying very good health he, in company with his wife, formerly Miss Bessie Whitehead of Clinton, and one small child decided to remove west, residing for a time in Broadview, Sask., removing later to Senlac where he first engaged in store-keeping, from which he retired, later to take up his old occupation of farming, in which he was still engaged when death claimed him. He was upright and honest in all his dealings with his fellowman and gained the respect and confidence of those who knew him. Besides being an extensive farmer he took a leading part in all that pertained to the welfare of the community. He was an active member of the Union Church of his town, for which he was unanimously chosen elder. "Never of a robust constitution, but being endowed with an indomitable spirit, he strove on and succeeded in making for himself and family a comfortable home. And just when fortune seemed to be favoring him most he was stricken with pneumonia and died after a brief illness of only eight days. He leaves to mourn his wife and four children: Winnie, Roy, Alva and Carmen, also his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Walker, still on the homestead at Kelvin; one brother, James C. Walker of Broadview, Sask; and three sisters: Mrs. W. G. Ross of Regina, Sask., Mrs. Herbert Hogg, Kelvin, and Mrs. Thomas Stewart, Kensington; a brother, Ewen, predeceased him last June."10,11,12 |
