Birth*Margret Walker was born on 15 April 1820 in Dumfriesshire, Scotland.1
She was the daughter of John Walker and Jane Davidson Weir.1
(Witness) EmigrationMargret Walker emigrated with John Walker and Jane Davidson Weir in July 1825 in Dumfriesshire, Scotland; daughters Henriann and Mary were born in Scotland, in 1823 and 1824, respectively. The book entitled William Schurman, Loyalist of Bedeque, states that John and his family emigrated in July 1825. John's obituary recorded that the family emigrated in 1822, which is incorrect.2,3
Death*Margret Walker died on 30 July 1825, at age 5 years, 3 months and 15 days. Her death entry in the John Walker Family Bible states that she was "Aged five years and three months". The date on her marker is "July 30th 1826", which does not match this age. Oral history says that she died during the voyage from Scotland to Prince Edward Island, but there are no records to confirm this.4
Alt-DeathAn alternate death date is on 30 July 1826.The year 1826 is on her tombstone. However, this is likely incorrect as her namesake, Margaret, was born 4 November 1825.5
Burial*She was buried in the Presbyterian Cemetery, North Bedeque, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, 46.36161,-63.72579. Small white flat marble ballast stone.

Emigration*He emigrated in 1821 from Scotland; Robert is listed in the Patrons Directory in the 1880 Meacham Atlas as having settled in New Annan. In 1821 he would have been a young lad of 10 years. If we can accept this date as accurate, it lends credence to my theory that his father emigrated at least one year before.9
Marriage*He married Elizabeth Cairns, daughter of Thomas Cairns and Agnes Wilson, on 6 March 1834 in St. John's Anglican Church, St. Eleanors, Prince County, Prince Edward Island.

License In 1847 Robert Walker was granted a license to operate a country tavern in New Annan. Robert is in the "List of Persons authorised by License to Retail Spirituous and other Liquors". He took over the business of the Walker Inn & Tavern from his brother David. in New Annan, Prince County, Prince Edward Island.12
(Witness) MarriageHe witnessed the marriage of Peter Schurman and Janet Cairns on 15 June 1847 in the United Church, North Bedeque, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, 46.36518,-63.72410; they were married "by license from Lieutenant Governor", by Rev. Robert S. Patterson, recorded 1 December 1847. Witnesses were Robert Walker and George Mabey Price.13
LicenseRobert Walker was granted a license between 1 January 1849 and 1 January 1850 in New Annan, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, to operate a tavern.14
OccupationHe was granted a "Country Tavern License" on 13 October 1855 in "Walker Inn", Lot 19, New Annan, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, 46.41978,-63.70972.15
The original "Walker Inn", shown here in 2000. The author assumes that the house dates to 1820, as it was in the autumn of that year that David Walker was first granted a license to sell liquors.
License*He was granted a country tavern license in Lot 19 (Licenses Book #6, p. 92-93). on 24 November 1858 in New Annan, Prince County, Prince Edward Island.16,17
LicenseHe was granted a country tavern license in Lot 19 (Licenses Book #6, p. 148-149). on 24 November 1860 in New Annan, Prince County, Prince Edward Island.16,18
(Head of Household) Census HeadHousehold*He appeared on the census of 1861 as Head of Household in Lot 19, New Annan, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, 46.41978,-63.70972.Robert was listed as a farmer and a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Lower Provinces. The proprietor was Andrew T. Todd, with 30 years expired on a lease of 999 years. Land was leased at the rate of £1 per acre per year. Of the 100 acres, 60 were arable and of 2nd quality. In the year up to the 1861 census they grew 50 bushels of wheat, 50 bushels of barley, 400 bushels of oats, 50 bushels of buckwheat, 600 bushels of potatoes, 50 bushels of turnips and 6 tons of hay. They weaved 20 yards of fulled cloth, 40 yards of non-fulled cloth and made 100 lbs. of butter. They owned 3 horses, 6 cattle, 14 sheep and 10 hogs.

In the household were two people born in Scotland (Robert and Betsy), 1 in the British provinces (Ann Bramble), and 6 born on P.E.I. By age, there was 1 male under 5 (George Price), 2 females and 1 male between 5 and 16 (Jessie, Elizabeth, Isabella and Thomas - should be 3 females), 1 female between 16 & 20 (Mary), 1 male between 21 & 45 (David), 1 female and 1 male between 45 & 60 (Betsy and Robert), and 1 female over 60 (Ann Bramble). Ann B. was already married in 1855. William James had died in 1856. Margaret H. was already married in 1859.19
1861 Canada Census, showing entries for brothers Robert and John Walker, New Annan, Prince Edward Island.
City Directory*He appeared in the City Directory in 1864 in Lot 19, Travellers Rest, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Robert Walker was listed in the 1864 Hutchinson's P.E.I. Directory as a farmer.20
Appoint*He was appointed the first Postmaster on 1 July 1878 in New Annan, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada.21
Biographical Note* Robert is listed in the 1880 Meacham Atlas. In the Lot 19 section he is shown as living in New Annan, was a Post Master and farmer. Nativity: Scotland. Date of Settlement: 1821. If this date is accurate it supports my theory that his father David might have emigrated alone and settled the property in New Annan before bringing his family.9
(Head of Household) Census HeadHouseholdHe appeared on the census of 1881 as Head of Household in Lot 19, New Annan, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada, 46.41978,-63.70972.Included in the household were Robert's wife Elizabeth (Cairns), son George Price Walker, and grandson Ewen Jamieson (son of Ann Bramble Walker and William Jamieson). Robert was a farmer, living on the original homestead of David Walker and Margaret Hetherington.
Note: In the LDS and Ancestry.ca transcriptions Robert's brother John was incorrectly placed in the household of Robert. Examination of the original microfilm clearly shows that John was head of his own household.22
1881 Canada Census return for Robert Walker, wife Elizabeth (Cairns), son George Price Walker and grandson Ewen Jamieson (son of William Jamieson and Ann Bramble Walker), going to school. Robert was a farmer, living on the original homestead of David Walker and Margaret Hetherington.
Note: In the LDS and Ancestry transcriptions Robert's brother John was incorrectly placed in the household of Robert. Examining the original microfilm clearly shows this to be incorrect.
Death*Robert Walker died on 4 December 1882 in New Annan, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada, 46.41978,-63.70972, at age 71; "Another of our oldest and most respected citizens has passed away. A tree by many trials pruned / A ripened sheaf of golden grain / A harp: - its jarring strings retuned, / A storm-tossed barque in port again. / May we so rest when life is o'er / May we so hope when death is nigh, / And meet with loved ones gone before, / Where hearts ne'er ache, nor loved ones die."
