Emigration*James Archibald Walker emigrated in 1889 from Prince Edward Island, Canada. This date of immigration, as recorded in the 1920 US census, is unlikely, as he was a member of his parent's household at the time of the 1891 Canada Census in Prince Edward Island. He settled in what would become Arizona.8
(First) Marriage*He married first May Lauritzen, daughter of Jens Severance Lauritzen and Dorothea Hanan. James Archibald emigrated to the U.S.A., and met May Lauritzen in Leadville, Colorado. They married and settled in the Arizona territory that ultimately became a state.2,9

Enumerated in the household with James (age 49) were his wife May (age 45), daughter Janette/Jean (age 10) and son James (age 9). James Sr. was a machinist in a copper mine. James was a stationary machinist, Susan a saleslady in a variety store, George a newspaper carrier. James declared that he was born in Maine, which is incorrect as he was actually born in Prince Edward Island, as were his parents.13

Death*He died on 25 July 1941, at age 72, at home, 304 1st Ave., Yuma, Yuma County, Arizona, U.S.A.; cause of death was suicide, "cyanide poisoning, self administered". Time of death was recorded as 8:20A.M. His marital status was recorded as widowed. The informant for this Certificate of Death was his son, James Marvin Walker. His second wife Ann died from the same cause on the same day, at 5:30A.M., at the Yuma General Hospital. It appears that she took the fatal dose of cyanide, and was admitted to hospital where she died. Possibly depressed over her death, James went home and took a lethal dose of the same cyanide, to die less than three hours after his wife.

Name Variation Jean Walker is also known as Jenny Walker.5
Name Variation Jean Walker is also known as Janette Walker.6
Birth*She was born on 8 January 1909 in Cananea, Sonora County, Mexico.5
She was the daughter of James Archibald Walker and May Lauritzen
Biographical Note* I understand from information I received that Jean was born in 1909 in Arizona (conflicts with her birth registration) and lived there till she was about 18. She then moved to California to attend college.

Jean was an accountant and had two jobs until she married, one with a major department store in Los Angeles during the day, and one in the evenings for the county of Los Angeles as an accountant and auditor. Jean was very accomplished in mathematics. She also worked at the Los Angeles County Assessor's Office as a bookkeeper. She was known for her perfection and accuracy in everything she did, in bookkeeping, cooking and caring for her family. During her later years, she was the Treasurer Accountant and kept books for Circle Three of her Presbyterian Church. Never a penny was unaccounted for or missing.

Jean and her husband Morris had one child, Joan Celia (Dollie) Lavine. In July 1998 Jean lived with her daughter in Los Angeles until her death.3
(Witness) Group PhotoJean Walker was included in a formal portrait with James Marvin Walker.3
(Daughter) Census HeadHouseholdJean Walker was enumerated on the census of 3 January 1920 in the household of James Archibald Walker, as a daughter, in Warren, Cochise County, Arizona, U.S.A.. He was divorced at the time of his death. From his newspaper obituary, "survivors include two sisters, Lorraine Billingsley, of Yuma, and Jean Levine, of Malibu, Calif." Lorraine Billingsley was also recorded on the Death Certificate of James as being the informant, and his "sister". From extensive research the author has been unable to locate records that would authenticate the brother-sister relationship of James and Lorraine.9,10,11,12

Death*He died on 28 November 1882, at age 87, in New Annan, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada.
Obituary - "The demise lately of John Walker, Esquire, Elder of New Annan, deserved more than a passing notice at his decease. He was 87 years, 2 months. He left a widow and twelve children to mourn their loss, besides 75 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren. He emigrated from Dumfriesshire, Scotland to this Island in 1822. He was a pioneer settler in New Annan, when it was an unimproved forest wilderness. By a strong constitution, industry, perseverance, sobriety, and above all, the Blessing of God. On his efforts, he succeeded in amassing quite a large amount of property, his hospitable house of full and plenty, was always a refuge for the poor and needy, and especially a welcoming home to the ministers of the gospel. He was for a great many years an Elder, and by long acquaintance and association, was endeared for his true, honest, unassuming piety, earnestness, cheerfulness, good judgment, and other natural abilities. He was a favourite of his minister, the late Rev. R.S. Patterson, whom he generally accompanied in his pastoral visits. He was a loving husband, and affectionate father, good neighbour. During his last illness, he had a pious advice for everybody who approached his dying bedside, and his death was most happy and triumphant." (The Examiner, 23 February, 1883; The Presbyterian Feb 22, 1883.)

"Mr. John Walker, of New Annan, an old and very highly respected member of the community, died on Monday last at the advanced age of 86 years." (Summerside Journal, 30 November 1882, p. 3, col. 1 & 2).18,9
