"OBITUARY In Loving Memory Of HAROLD BRADFORD CAIRNS On May 31, 2002, Harold Bradford Cairns passed away peacefully at Prince County Hospital, Summerside, surrounded by his Loving family. Harold was born June 9, 1943, son of Bradford and Helen (Walker) Cairns, Wilmot and spent 18 years with his parents, where they operated a mixed farm. In 1963, Harold married Nancy Clarke and they have three children, Jennifer (Paul Fritze), Michael (Anne Hayward) and Julia (fiancee Dennis Brown). After completing his education, he went to work for F.W. Ward & Sons, Potato Brokerage Firm. In June 1966, he went to Associated Shippers Inc. Charlottetown as General Manager and three years later, in 1969, he formed Cairns Produce, which is still operating as a Shipping Agency. In 1974, he joined the P.E.I. Potato Marketing Board to develop new markets in Canada and the United States. In September 1976, along with Martin Visser, formed a new export company called Visser Produce Ltd., and had worked there until his death. During his lifetime Harold was Past President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Founding President of the PEI Kidney Foundation, Elder of Trinity United Church, Vice-Chairman of the PEI Grain Elevators Corp., Past Director of the local Chamber of Commerce, Director of Potatoes Canada, Director of Port Development in Summerside and Member of PEI Potatoes Exporters Assoc. Harold is survived by his wife Nancy, their three children, spouses and two grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Patrick and Will Cairns, his parents Brad and Helen, his mother-in-law Dorothy Clarke, sisters Jean (Robert Miller), Margaret (Leonard MacDonald) and brother Ben (Lorna) and many nieces and nephews. He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather who delighted in encouraging his family to discover their talents and use them wisely. Harold's philosophy on life's journey was evident in the way that he dealt with his illness. Harold's life touched many people, he had a wonderful sense of humour, he was kind, giving and always ready to lend a helping hand. His largely attended funeral was held at Trinity United Church, Summerside, with Rev. Victor and Rev. Carolyn MacLeod. Readings were delivered by Kent Clark and Jean Sullivan and a very moving tribute by son Michael. CARD OF THANKS We would like to thank our wonderful family and our many friends for all their prayers and acts of kindness during Harold's illness and our time of mourning. To Dr. Monica McNeill, Dr. Dryer and Dr. Champion, all the staff of QEH Oncology thank you so much for your kind and loving care you gave Harold. A special thank you to Donna Gallant and Susan MacKay at PCH and Violet Banks, for your compassionate care and just being there for us.
