Note* | Quit high school in the 11th grade and went on to receive her GED in 1973 at the Hawkeye Community College. All through her ordeal with cancer she never let on that she was going to become an and only as a result of her medication. She died peacefully at home on Wednesday. She was a marvelous cook and always made each and every person welcome and comfortable in her home. She lived for her children and grandchildren. In a letter written to her father after Cathy had given birth to Thomas Jr...... 9-26-1988...Hi Daddy, I haven't heard from you for an awful long time. Are you feeling ok? I have been pretty busy the past month or so. First of couse we had our baby, then they stayed with me for a week & t myself for quite a while. Am glad it is all over and Cathy has a healthy baby. Now all my 5 babies have each had a child. My life is blest, I would say. To have 5 healthy children & then turn around & have 5 healthy grandchildren. Love 'Gramma Smith' Her life was truely taken from her and her family all too soon. She had many friends and everyone loved her. Is to her that I owe the true inspiration of searching for her family, and the end results of this book. I miss and love you very much mother. [Notes from Patty Campbell] |
