Death* | He died on 5 November 1915, at age 50, in Summerside, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada; Obituary: "We have seldom been called upon to perform a sadder duty than to record the death of our fellow citizen and friend, Mr. D. Montgomery Waugh, who passed away at his residence in Summerside last Friday night at the early age of fifty years. He was of that class of citizen that it is hard and sorrowful for any community to lose even by the process of old age, but for such to be cut off from us in the prime of life is truly a matter of regret. The late Mr. Waugh was a quiet, unassuming manly man. He was well known for his scrupulous honesty and unselfishness in dealing with his fellow man. These and other qualities had won for him hosts of friends far and near who will always cherish the memory of this kind and thoughtful citizen and friend now passed to the Great Beyond, but whose years among us were not spent in vain.
Born in Summerside, the late Mr. Waugh began his business career in the store of Messrs. Clark, Robblee & Clark, which many years ago went out of existence. Afterwards he was with the late Mr. Wm. Reid, and later with the late R. T. Holman. Some 15 years ago he with Mr. W. S. Steeves opened the well-known and prosperous business on Water St. still trading under the style of Messrs. Wright & Steeves, although Mr. Waugh has been the sole and popular proprietor for some years. He was a prominent Oddfellow, a member of Prince Edward Lodge, and for a term held the honourable position of Deputy District Grand Master. He was also a member of the Canadian Order of Foresters and was for some years on the Board of Management of the Presbyterian Church, and also served a term as Town Councillor.
An only son died in early manhood, but both his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Waugh, of Summerside, survive him; also one brother, Mr. Willard Waugh of Alberton. To the sorrowing widow, who has the profound sympathy of the entire community in her sorrow, and relatives we join an unusually wide circle of friends in tendering our sincere condolence."1,2
