Note* | The St. Croix Historical Society will hold Daniel Hill Day 10 a.m.- 4p.m. Saturday at the historic Holmes Cottage on Main Street in Calais. An Indian guide is said to have brought Hill to Calais from Machias in1776. Hill soon built a cabin on what is now Union Street, and alsocleared a plot of land at Ferry Point, where the bridge now stands. Hill's children were: Daniel II, Thomas, Joseph, William, Elizabeth HillMaxwell, Charlotte Hill Thompson . Thomas married Abigail Dyer, daughterof Jones Dyer, and had 15 children.
