Note*At the beginning of the war was major of State Troops. He fought atBennington, and in 1778 represented Shaftsbury in the General Assemby. Gideon Olin (1743-1823), removed to Vermont, 1776, and was major of GreenMountain Boys at Bennington. He was a member of Assembly, Speaker sevensessions, and on the bench at the close of the war. He was born in EastGreenwich, R.I., and died in Shaftsbury, Vt. (DAR #18090.)

Biographical Note* Susannah was the daughter of the Hon. Gideon Olin, and sister of the Hon.Judge Abram B. Olin, of Washington, D. C. She was a woman of some note in her day, and whose character may be judged from the fact that she rode on horseback, unattended, a distance of over one thousand miles to collect silver-ware and gold beads from her friends for the purpose of securing the enormous bail of $15,000 for the release of Matthew Lyon, of Rutland, Vermont, incarcerated for the violation of the notorious sedition laws.
