After the death of her father in 1855, her mother placed her in an Orphan's Home where she was listed on the 1860 census with Fanny Fish, age 11 and George Fish, age10. In 1861, Ann Eliza was adopted by George W. and Mary Ann Gibbs and a court petition her mother signed legally changed her name to Ann Eliza Gibbs on Dec 3, 1861, Bristol Co., Mass She appears on the 1855 MA State Census with her family.
