Dyer Franklin Brown
M, #80782, b. 3 March 1881, d. 8 February 1941
Note* | Dyer And Eva had thirteen children, Ten of which survived and 9 of themmarried and Ruth never married. ================= Article from The Peterborough Transcript, dated June 19,1947 Brown Family SetsEnviable Record With the graduation tonight of George and Mary Brown, son anddaughter of Mrs. John Cote of this town, and the late Dyer F. Brown, anenviable record has been established in the Peterborough schools by theBrown family. Consisting of 10 members, four boys and six girls, thisfall will be the first time in 34 years that at least one of the familyhas not been a student in the Peterborough schools. Most important, however, is that all members of this large family hold diplomas fromPeterborough High School. Marion (now Mrs. Eugene White of Malden, Mass.) is the oldest of the10 and was the first to enter the local schools. She started in 1913 andgraduated with the class of 1925. She has now been married for severalyears and is the mother of four children. The second member of the family to enter the schools was Carl, whobegan in 1919 and graduated with the class of 1931. he has been employedby the Transcript Printing Co., for many years. The next to graduate was Ruth, who received her diploma with theclass of 1933 and has since been employed by the American Guernsey Cattleclub. Her younger brother, Duane then followed in the class of 1936. Henow resides in Hartford, Conn., where he is assistant manager of a largegrocery store, is married and the father of one child. Louise (now Mrs. Douglas Brown) received her diploma in 1937 and is,like her older sister Ruth, is employed by the American Guernsey Cattleclub. Rubie (now Mrs. Joseph F. Boudreau) graduated with the class of1939. She is at home and the mother of one child. In 1941, Ethel (now Mrs. C. Robert Plyler) carried on the traditionstarted by her older brothers and sisters and received her diploma fromthe high school. She has been living for some time at Norfolk, Va. She isalso the mother of one child. In 1943 Harry, still single, and now employed as an apprenticepressman by the Transcript Printing Co., graduated and left to serve forthe next three years in the Navy. The youngest boy in the family, George, was to have graduated in 1945 but, due to the war, left school in May,1944 to enlist in the Navy. He was honorably discharged in July 1946 andby means of a general educational development test given by the highschool to war veterans whose education was interrupted by their service, will be awarded his diploma tonight with his sister, Mary. He is nowemployed by the town highway department. It is not known whether the educational achievements of this family, made possible only by many sacrifices on their part and that of theirparents to receive the education, actually establishes a record for thePeterborough schools or not. There have been other large families hereall of whom have received their diplomas from the high school but it isnot known whether there is any as large as this family who have done so.An example of another large family is that of the seven children of Mr.and Mrs. Orlow A. Cutter, all of whom are graduates of Peterborough HighSchool. Cause of Death: Heart Attack Occupation: Mechanic Occupation Fact: Volunteer Fireman. |
