Charlottetown, and was found dead in his bunk. Obituary: "Sudden Death on Board Car Ferry. William Smith, 48, assistant electrician on the C. G. S. Charlottetown was found dead in his berth on board ship yesterday morning. Coroner Dr. W. B. Howatt of Summerside decided an inquest was unnecessary. It was believed death was due to heart ailment. Mr. Smith was born at Charlottetown, the son of the late W. E. Smith and Mrs. Smith. During the Great War he served in the Canadian Navy. Following his discharge he was for a time with the Telephone Company, and for the past seven months was employed on the C. G. S. Charlottetown, ice breaking car ferry plying between Borden this province and Cape Tormentine on the mainland. At the time of his death Mr. Smith was acting Chief Electrician. His residence was at 57 Upper Queen St., this city. Surviving are Mr. Smith's wife, formerly Muriel Corney, Summerside, two small children, Carmen, 9, and Reta, 3. His mother Mrs. W. E. Smith, two brothers, Frederic and Walter A. Smith both of Charlottetown, and two sisters, Mrs. Louis J. Moore and Mrs. J. MacMillan, both of Toronto, also survive. The funeral will be held from the MacLean Funeral Home tomorrow afternoon."2,4 |
