Mar.19,1809, aged 74. ======================== NICHOLAS TILLINGHAST, He was a merchant; town clerk of Providence in1754, and probably some years before and after that; was a Judge of oneof the courts, probably C. C. P. In 1777, he was imprisoned a few days,for having in his possession a proclamation of Lord Howe, and refusing tosay how he came by it. From some papers relating the affair, it issupposed that he had it from his brother. He became a follower of RobertSandeman, who came from Scotland, and was the founder in this country ofa sect called Sandemanians; the same that were called Glassites inScotland. About the close of the war, or perhaps before, he moved toTaunton, Mass., where he d. Feb. 26, 1797, aged 70 yrs. 9 m. He wasPostmaster of Taunton, during his several latter years. Although noteducated in a college, he was a fine scholar, well versed in the Latinlanguage, and in the literature of the day. He m. (1st) SUSAN DYER, whoprobably d. very soon, s. p. He m. (2d), Sept. 26, 1754, JOANNA ISACKS,who d. Mar. 30, 1757, leaving 2 chil. He m. (3d), Feb. 11, 1762, wid.RUTH (Phillips) EDWARDS, then aged 27 yrs. Notes for JOHN TIMBERLAKE: Transcript of Record of Birth confirms birth date and place. Lists hisFather Archer as a laborer, mother as Mary Timberlake. Filed in Stateoffice Nov. 23, 1873. We were told his mother died when he was about 3 years old. At somepoint his father took the children and moved to Chicago. There was anote that John lived with a Mrs. Davis in Bellaire, OH for a while. Hehad an older cousin, Josephine Ashby, daughter of his Aunt Margaret, who married a James Davis and would havebeen the right age to take care of him. She lived in Bellaire, which isjust across the river from Wheeling, WV - Archer may have worked therefirst as there were Rolling mills there. John had come to stay with Earl and Marian at their place in Concord,CA. Had not been there long when he fell and broke his hip. He was inthe Contra Costa Co. Hospital in Martinez for 31 days when he died. Hisdeath certificate says he died of Terminal Pneumonia. He went to thehospital on January 11 and his right hip was operated on January 14,1943. He was buried in Martinez, Alhambra Cemetery, Grave #9 of Lot#441. Services held from Scott & Greene Chapel with Rev. VerdetteWalters officiating. The whole family from Southern Calif. came up for the services. We havea picture of Millie and all living children. He and Grandma Millie hadnever divorced, but had lived apart for many years. The Death Certificate notes that his usual residence was Hammond, LakeCounty, Indiana The Death certificate states his occupation as Millworker. His birthplace as Virginia. Father, Archie Timberlake ofVirginia. Mother Mary Pearman of Virginia. At the time of the birth of his youngest son Harry, the family was livingat 1012 Ann St., Newport, KY. His occupation was listed as 'Heater,Rolling Mill'. Marriage Return for John & Millie made out by Josephus H. Irish, Justiceof the Peace on Dec. 24, 1891. Shows father to be A. B.
