Note* | Emiline Crandall, Daughter of Tanner Crandall and Susan Hall, was born 10Jun 1829 in New York State and died May 1911, married 23 Feb 1851 CharlesE. Voorhis. In May, 1911, Emiline Crandall Voorhis passed through the Pearly Gates,being the last survivor of the children of Tanner and Susan Crandall. Itwas at the Voorhis home in the afternoon of the day of the funeral, thatthe family and relatives were gathered and it was proposed that a reunionof the two families, the Crandalls and the Lakes, be organized andobserved annually. The suggestions met with approval of all present and the society wasformed by electing William H. Vorhis president, Eva Stamp secretary, andCrayton H. Sigerfoos treasure. The society held their reunion on thethirteenth day of June, 1911, at the fairgrounds at Cassopolis, and havemet annually since. It was at one of these gatherings that it was voted to choose a historianand Frances Lake was chosen. She served one year and resigned on accountof ill health and C. H. Sigerfoos was chosen to succeed her. Mrs. Lakehad succeeded in securing considerable information which she turned overto her successor and with that, and the kelp of others, we now presentyou with the following history of the Crandall and Lake families. Tanner Crandall was born in 1784. There is no record of where he wasborn but it is known that the greater part of his life was spent inChenango County, New York, and Bradford County, Pennsylvania. He was twice married, his first wife's name being Hannah Brakeman. Tothis union were born seven children, three sons and four daughters asfollows: Lewis, Lodovick, Hiram, Diantha, Dianna, Didama, and Lydia.Tanner Crandall had two brothers, Hosea and Kellup, but of their historylittle or nothing is known. |
