Note*He followed his father into railroading when a boy but went far afield,for at the age of nineteen he was in Panama with the Isthmus Railroad.Returning to the United States he became master mechanic of the Chicgo &West Michigan Railway when only twenty-five. About 1890 he left hisposition to go into the lumber business in Menominee, Michigan,eventually transferring his lumber interests to Houston, Texas, where therest of his life was spent. (Mass & Maine Family Histories, p.413.)
