Jerusha A. Hicks
F, #9345, b. 1853, d. 4 November 1895
Note* | From "Wesleyan" Jerusha and Estella Oulton On the 30th of Oct. Estella aged 22 yrs. the daughter and on the 4th of Nov. Jerusha aged 42 yrs. the beloved wife of John N. Oulton of Jolicure were taken from their large circle of sorrowing friends by typhoid fever. Bro. Oulton's family have been most painfully afflicted, as two children a son Marshall and a daughter May of 16 and 11 yrs. are still very low, and a little Sam boy of seven who was the first taken, is but just beginning to give promise of permanent recovery. Estella was a young woman of much promise and in her home, the most affectionate and thoughtful helper of her mother so much so as to have won in her self-denying surrender of her own desire and choice, the loving respect of the whole community. She died as she lived, a true follower of Jesus and her last testimony was of quiet and resigned trust in Him. Mrs. Oulton, whose maiden name was Hicks, came into communion with the Methodist Church with her husband and lived a life amid the retirement of her large family, shut away from public activities, but none the less honoring to God. As in the faithful round of daily duties well performed she rendered honest service to the Saviour who had fixed the bounds and limits of her providential sphere. She served her home with true Christian consecration and in the exacting demands of that service upon her vital forces she counted not her life dear unto herself and was not for God took her. She rests from her labors and her works do follow her. And only that there is another city of everlasting rest I well might mourn my lot in deep self pity To be so little blest But safe within another home's warm keeping Are the dear friends of old They are where changes come not and no weeping Is heard within that fold ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- ------------ For Heaven is full of strong abiding places Oh God that may see When morning breaks the dear families faces That are at home with Thee.
