Annie Ellen Ottley
F, #14863
Anna Otto
F, #62179, b. 26 November 1857, d. 4 January 1929
Note* | Anna Otto was the sister of Therisa Amelia Otto. Therisa was Karl ErnstMehner's first wife who died in Saxony, Germany on a trip there in 1910with her husband. Karl married his wife's sister Anna Otto and broughther back to Bremerton, WA., the same year! She was 53 at the time of hermarriage. There is a discrepancy about her birth date: Her death certificate listsit as Nov. 26, 1857; the Lewis Funeral Home of Bremerton 'Record forFuneral' says Nov. 26, 1867. Because her sister Therisa was born in1849, we would assume that the 1857 date on her death certificate iscorrect (eight years, not 18 years apart!.) Mrs. Anna Mehner's death certificate shows that she had been in the USAfor 19 years as of her death in 1929. This corresponds exactly with herlogical arrival in Bremerton after her sister Therisa's death in Germanyin 1910 and her marriage (probably in Mittweida, Saxony in 1910) to KarlErnst Mehner. Her death certificate says that she was a nurse by occupation and thatshe was keeping house for herself at the time of her death. It appears that she had a funeral service on Jan. 9, 1929 (officiated by'Harper'?) It was in the 'Chapel' of probably the Lewis Funeral Home ofBremerton (But could have been in Forks or Port Angeles, WA. She wascremated. 'It seems rather sad that she died that she died in the Woodland Hotel inForks, WA., 'keeping house' at age 71 and that senility was contributoryto her death. Perhaps Rose Miller was proprietress of the hotel and'looked after Anna (or she may have been a relative of the Otto family orothers from Saxony!) Forks was an early, remote logging town on thePacific Coast. The hotel must have been quite primitive in 1929.'- -Nancy Mehner Ruhlman, November, 2000. |
Birth* | Anna Otto was born on 26 November 1857 in Saxony, Germany . |
| She was the daughter of Ferdinand Julius Otto and Amelia Ulrich. |
Marriage* | Anna Otto married Karl Ernst Mehner, son of Christian Gottlieb Mehner and Kristlane Wilhelmine Arnold, in Probably in Mittweida, Saxony, Germany . |
Death* | Anna Otto died on 4 January 1929, at age 71, in Forks, Clallam County, Washington, U.S.A. . |
Burial* | She was buried on 6 January 1929 in Bremerton, Kitsap County, Washington, U.S.A. . |

Therisa Amelia Otto1
F, #51833, b. 1849, d. 14 June 1910
Note* | Therisa (Theresa) Amelia Otto was born in Chemnitz, Saxony, Germany in1849. We suspect that her ancestral home was Riesa, Saxony, becauseaccording to her obituary in the Bremerton newspaper, she and her husbandKarl Ernst Mehner were visiting her brother in Riesa at the time of herdeath (June 14, 1910). She had married (at age 22) Karl Ernst Mehner in 1871 at St. JohannesChurch, Chemnitz. They had three sons: Paul Ernest, Hermann J. andAlbert Hugo (all born somewhere near Chemnitz in Saxony, Germany) She came to the USA with her husband and three sons in 1880 to MountVernon, Knox Co. Ohio. The family moved to Seattle in 1889 and toTracyton (Fairview) near Bremerton in 1891(farming with the three sonsbecause of Karl Ernst's heart trouble). The family moved to Bremerton in 1901. Interestingly, she and Karl made a Will leaving out her son Herman inBremerton May 2, 1910, just six weeks before she died! We love to speculate on her final eventful trip back to Germany.Imagine!: 1910--An old couple-(He was 65 and she was 61); They must havetaken the train to NYC--Then a steamship to Bremerhaven (The Titanic sunkone year later and WWI began four years later!) They probably took thetrain to Chemnitz and were visiting her brother in Riesa (about 20 milesnorth of Chemnitz when she suddenly died, June 14, 1910!). What adifficult time and lonely trip back to Bremerton it must have been forKarl Ernst! We wonder where her relatives were living in Germany? After her death, her widowed husband Karl Ernst wrote that he visited (relatives, weassume) in suburbs of Chemnitz: Annaberg-Buchhotz (about 18 miles south)and Augustusburg (about 6 miles east). Also, he visited relatives inLeipzig, Dresden and Apolda in Thuringen. We know that Therisa's sisterwas Anna Otto (later perhaps Karl's second wife!?), living in Mittweida, and other relatives were living in Riesa when she died visiting thereJune 14, 1910. We really are not sure, but they could have been on herside (Otto/Ulrich) or his side: (Mehner/Arnold). Future research and visits will have to discover the details. |
Birth* | Therisa Amelia Otto was born in 1849 in Chemnitz, Germany .1 |

Marriage* | Therisa Amelia Otto married Karl Ernst Mehner, son of Christian Gottlieb Mehner and Kristlane Wilhelmine Arnold, in 1871, in St. Johannes Church, Chemnitz, Germany . |
