In May and June of1886, he received two awards of 100 merit points each. They are beautiful certificates which my daughter, Nancy[Baumgartner], has framed. Not only was he a good student, but he wasalso extremely musical. He played the guitar, harmonica and baritonehorn. In fact, he was playing in a band at a dance in the Town Hall the night I was born.' 'As a young man, he worked with his father as an apprentice druggist, later passing the State Boards to become a registered pharmacist. Myfather entered into partnership with Henry Forsyth and they continued inbusiness in the same building, (the building bearing the Dyer name on the corner of Grant and Cedar Streets[in Houston Village]) where the Bedore Drug Store now operates.
