Resided in Cambridge, MD Mother's will (1778) calls him of Island of Jersey, British Channel. 1789, Removed to Easton, MD after 1st wife's death. ============================================ In 1780, this Nicholas Hammond married his cousin, Sarah George, andsettled at Cambridge, Md. They moved from Marblehead to Cornwallis and quite possibly encountered Elijah and Mary Estabrooks there. Sarah had four children by James Oakes: James (junior), Benjamin, Sarah and Christopher (Christopher was born in 1773). James (senior) died about the same time as Mary Hackett. Sarah Oakes brought her small family to Gagetown and married Elijah Estabrooks on 17 December 1778. They had a further two children, Elizabeth (Betsy) born 30 October 1779, and Hammond, born 29 January 1783.

Biographical Note* Thomas B. Hammond was the immigrant ancestor, having been born in Englandabout 1630 and died Oct. 20, 1678 in Newton, Mass. He probably immigrated to Mass. during the reign of King Charles I(1625-1649). 'Charles I hated Parliaments--' they are of the nature ofcats!'_ 'they ever grow cursed with age'. In 1639 he had done withthem.. In 1640 he recalled Parliament but was soon at loggerheads withthem again. This time, however, the result was civil war. I 1649 helost his crown and his life, paving the way for the restoration of theStuarts to the throne in 1660' --pg 173, History of Britain, Reader's Digest Association.

Biographical Note* We know that John Hammonde lived in Lavenham, Latham Co., Sussex, England(where his son John was born) and died in Suffolk in East Anglia,England. We know his son john was born about 1500. The elder John Hammond must have been born during the reign of KingEdward IV (1461-1483). King Edward IV was only 19 when he, the Duke ofYork, defeated Henry VI, his Lancasterian rival at Towton. 'King Edward was well equipped to meet the challenge of bringing order toa country which for six years had been torn by civil war. He was nearly6 ft. tall and his striking good looks gave him the physical presence ofa king. And he also possessed administrative skill. From the start,Edward declared his intentions of reforming royal finances; so he couldavoid raising unpopular taxes. Death of Mrs. Lauritzen As a Result of Old Age

Mrs. Dorthea Lauritzen, a well known resident of this city, passed away about 5 o'clock this morning at St. Francis hospital, where she had been making her home for the past year or more, death resulting from old age. Mrs. Lauritzen had long been a resident of Grand Island and for many years resided with her son, the late Silas Lauritzen, on East Sixth Street. following his death about a year ago, Mrs. Lauritzen removed to the St. Francis hospital, where she continued to make her home until her death. The deceased leaves to mourn her loss three daughters—Mrs. F. T. McTee (Frank J. McTee), of Omaha; Mrs. J. A. Walker (James Archibald Walker), of Lowell, Ariz., and Mrs. Edward Fuehrer (Arnold Furrer), of New York—and one son, Barney, who has not been heard from for many years and of whom it is not known whether or not he is alive.
