Estabrooks of Saint John, N.B., in 1935, revised 1958, (Saint John, N.B.: privately published, the most remote ancestor of the Carleton County families was Joseph A. Frances Estabrooks1

| Frances Estabrooks was the daughter of Hammond Estabrooks and Rebecca Glasier. |
Note* | Florence C. Estabrooks, in 'Genealogy of the Anglo-Dutch EstabrooksFamily of The Saint John River, New Brunswick' (1935, Saint John, N.B.:privately published, rpt. 1958), said that George and Frances Estabrookswent to Amity, Maine. In the Vital Records of Maine, at the Maine State Archives in Augusta,June 14, 1995, I (George H. Hayward, 29 Leeds Drive, Fredericton, NewBrunswick, Canada E3B 4S7) located a marriage record for GeorgeEstabrooks and Frances Ann Estabrooks of Hodgdon, Aroostook County, Feb.22, 1844, by Howard P. Towne. The Maine Census of 1860, Town of Amity, Aroostook County, Page 4, listsa family that may be this family, except that age 40 given for GeorgeEstabrooks suggest that he was born about 1820 whereas Florence C.Estabrooks, in her 'Genealogy of the Anglo-Dutch Estabrooks Family,'gives his birth date as 1809 with a question mark. The 1860 Censuslists: George Estabrooks, 40, farmer, born in New Brunswick; Frances A.,33, wife, housekeeper, born in Maine; C.O., female, 16; George, 15;Jemima?, 12; female, 10; Horace, 8; Christiana, 7, Thomas, 6; __ret,male, 3; Almeda, 1; S?, 1 mo. Age 16 in 1860 for their first child suggests a birth date of about 1844,which relates well to the marriage date of 22 Feb 1844 for George andFrances, and George and Frances named a son Horace, as did HammondEstabrooks who presumably was George's brother. |
