Note* | Arthur Preston Walker and Ella Townshend were both Methodists. At the time of marriage, Arthur was a resident of Amherst, Nova Scotia, and Ella was a resident of Jolicure, Westmorland Co., New Brunswick. The witnesses to their wedding were Dudley A. Lambert and Grace Townshend (Ella's sister, who later married Alfred Green). Although they were both of the Methodist Church, the wedding took place at the home of John and Susan (Wallace) Galloway, in Jolicure, N.B. Susan Wallace was Ella's mother, married first to Frank Townshend and second to John Galloway. There is a conflict re: Arthur's birth place and mother. According to his marriage certificate (to Ella Mae Townshend), he was born in New Annan, Prince Edward Island, and his mother was Mary Robinson. According to the church records on file at the Elmwood Cemetery in Moncton, Ella Mae gave his birth place as Granite, Colorado, and his mother as Adelaide Clark. Adelaide is a name that cropped up in conversations with Walkers in PEI September 2000. It has since been confirmed that Arthur's mother is Adelaide Clark. George Price Walker and Adelaide Clarke divorced in 1900. Mary Robinson is the person that George Price Walker married after he divorced Addie Clark.12 |

Walker - The death of Arthur P. Walker of Bromley Avenue in Moncton, occurred suddenly at Moncton Hospital Thursday. "Born in Granite, Ontario (sic), in 1890, he was a son of the late George and Adelaide (Clark) Walker. A retired CNR machinist, he was a member of the committee of stewards of Central United Church and a member of the IOOF. "He is survived by his wife, Ella Mae Townsend Walker; three sons, George L. of Montreal, Clyde A. of Calgary, and Lorne P. of Moncton, a sister Mrs. Marjorie Lamb of Vancouver; several nieces and nephews, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. "Funeral service will be held from Cadman's Funeral Home Monday, May 27 at 1:30 p.m. with interment in Elmwood cemetery. The body is resting at Cadman's Funeral Home." Funeral announcement (unknown newspaper): "Funeral for A. P. Walker - Funeral service for Arthur P. Walker of 42 Bromley Avenue, Moncton, a native and former resident of Granite, Colorado, U.S.A., was held recently at Cadman's Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. J.A. Berridge, pastor of Central United Church. "Members of the Central United Church Choir sang the hymns The Old Rugged Cross and In the Garden. "Pallbearers were R.C. Calpin, Lorne A. Blakney, Lester Power, A. B. Balser, and IOOF members F.O. Steeves and Guy Chapman. "Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, where Mr. Berridge conducted committal service. "Members of Prince Albert Lodge No. 26, IOOF, attended the service in a body and formed a guard of honor at the entrance to the funeral home and the cemetery. A service was conducted at the grave by Lawrence Powell, past noble grand, assisted by F.O. Steeves, past noble grand, as chaplain. "The service was largely attended by friends, relatives and business associates from Toronto, Port Elgin, Summerside, Campbellton, Amherst, Shemogue, Moncton and surrounding areas."17,18,19,5 |
Biographical Note* | There are several details in error recorded on his death certificate: 1. Length of stay at last residence was entered as 12 years. He lived at 40 Bromley Ave., Moncton, at least since 1926 when his name appeared in the City Directory. 2. Total years spent working as a machinist for the C.N.R. was recorded as 48 years. His year of retirement was recorded as 1950, which would mean he started working there in 1902 at the age of 12. In fact, his period of employment should have been recorded as 38 years, as he was shown to be a machinist with the C.N.R. as of 1912 (ref. marriage certificate) 3. Birthplace for his father was recorded as Scotland. He was actually born in New Annan, Prince Edward Island. 4. Birthplace for his mother was recorded as Scotland. She was actually born in Cape Traverse, Prince Edward Island.5 |
