Since 1859 he has resided at Grosse Isle, a suburb ofDetroit, in the Detroit river, a few miles below the city. He wasreporter of the Supreme Court of Michigan from 1845 to 1849, and one ofthe judges of the same court from January, 1852, to May, 1857, when heresigned, and resumed the practice of his profession as a lawyer inDetroit, in which he has since been engaged. In April, 1856, he marriedElizabeth, daughter of Henry M. Campbell, an old resident of Detroit, andsister of the Hon. James V. Campbell, LL. D., Marshall professor of law,in the University of Michigan, and for the last eighteen years one of thejudges of the Supreme Court of the state. |
