He emigrated from Dumfriesshire, Scotland to this Island in 1822. He was a pioneer settler in New Annan, when it was an unimproved forest wilderness. By a strong constitution, industry, perseverance, sobriety, and above all, the Blessing of God. On his efforts, he succeeded in amassing quite a large amount of property, his hospitable house of full and plenty, was always a refuge for the poor and needy, and especially a welcoming home to the ministers of the gospel. He was for a great many years an Elder, and by long acquaintance and association, was endeared for his true, honest, unassuming piety, earnestness, cheerfulness, good judgment, and other natural abilities. He was a favourite of his minister, the late Rev. R.S. Patterson, whom he generally accompanied in his pastoral visits. He was a loving husband, and affectionate father, good neighbour. During his last illness, he had a pious advice for everybody who approached his dying bedside, and his death was most happy and triumphant." Obituary: John Havelock Walker. The death occurred at Charlottetown on April 24, 1979 of John Havelock Walker of Crapaud, P.E.I.
Mr. Walker was born at Cape Traverse on May 19, 1890, the only son of the late Hugh B. Walker and his wife Eliza Lefurgey, and was actively engaged in farming, a life work he enjoyed until his retirement in 1973.
His last years were spend (sic) in Crapaud. On February 24, 1979, he became ill and entered the Prince Edward Island Hospital and failed to recover.
Of a sweet and unassuming nature, he was a man of strong convictions, and to those who knew him, integrity and dependability made up the creed by which he lived. His many friends can testify that he thoroughly understood the meaning of what it is to be a good neighbour.
Left to mourn the passing of a loving husband and father, are his wife Neavey Myers of Victoria, whom he married in 1919, and three children: Eileen, Mrs. Robert J. Haines, Niagara Falls, Ontario; Mildred, R.N. of Toronto, Ontario; and John of Crapaud. Granddaughter Roberta, and two great grandchildren all of Niagara Falls, Ontario. Also his beloved only sister Floss - Mrs. J. McCurdy Bell, Charlottetown.8
