Her daughter, Florence Ruhlman Wheeler remembered: 'What you can't help, learn to like' 'What you do not tell will never be repeated' 'If they talk about anybody to you, they will talk about you to anybody' 'Try to find some good in the most unlovely' 'Keep your chin up and act like you own the world.'

She was a woman of some note in her day, and whose character may be judged from the fact that she rode on horseback, unattended, a distance of over one thousand miles to collect silver-ware and gold beads from her friends for the purpose of securing the enormous bail of $15,000 for the release of Matthew Lyon, of Rutland, Vermont, incarcerated for the violation of the notorious sedition laws.
