The Huestis Family originally settled at Bear Island in 1785 or 1786. The original house was built in 1795 or before. The next house was built in 1895 by Judson Gunter and Anthony Manuel. The farm had 240 acres on the deed and180 after the Mactaquac dam was built in 1967. The farm was 40 rods wide. in 1785.

Note*

In 1993, they lived in Bear Island, York County, New Brunswick. Neil operated a large dairy and poultry farm until 1967 when it was expropriated for the Mactaquac Dam. They then moved to Fredericton, where he was the maintenance supervisor for Tractor's & Equipment. In the mid 1980's he contracted a bad case of the shingles in the face that was very painful and forced him to retire. They moved back to Bear Island in the late 1970's, raised beef cattle and operated a sugary.
