The following was received by Donald Raymond Coy, 3806 51st Ave. SW,Seattle, Wa. E-mail: don3127wa@@juno.com by electronic e-mail from Lori (Timberlake) London (who is in this FTW), plondon@@bellsouth.net on August23, 2002. Notes for BESSIE PARKER: After her marriage she lived in Chicago, she had 4 or 5 children. Her husband shot himself. At one point she moved to California. Her mother Lydia (Eliza) lived with her there for a while. We have snapshots of the two of them at the beach in CA. She ended up in Cheyenne, WY. Earl & family stopped to visit her there on a trip to Texas, perhaps 1947. She died in Cheyenne of cancer. She is shown as deceased in the obit of her sister Alta, 1962. We have a photo of Bessie as a younger woman, perhaps late 30's?. Also photo taken at the beach in California with her mother Lydia. Millie and family stopped to see her on one of their trips to California and Millie made the following comment in her journal: 'Seen Bess, nice looking old lady. Ignorant, as always.2' |

Four claims were made by him, one for himself, one for his brotherE.P. Butler, one for George Wells and the last for Theodore Wells. He didnot settle on these claims at that time though. The first settlement thatI have found occurred shortly after November 1, 1834, which is when hemade claim, by Solon Robinson and family. He held the deed to the land that the courthouse stands on today. As of 1873, the courthouse that was prominent was one built in 1849 byGeorge Earle, architect, and Jeremy Hixon, builder. The present daycourthouse was erected in 1878 and is now a well-preserved museumreflecting on the history of Crown Point. Population grew steadily fromabout 1,300 in 1873, to about 2,300 in 1900. The town was incorporated in1868. ------------- 1880 Federal Census: Census Place: Center Township, Lake Co, Indiana Source: FHL Film 1254291 National Archives Film T9-0291 Page 557C Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace Hiram PARKER Self M M W 39 NY (namespelled incorrectly) Occupation: Farmer Fa: NY Mo: NY Ann E.
