He sought refuge in Leyden, Holland where he met and married Jacqueline DeParisis. Two years later, in 1652, he sailed with his wife and infant son, Daniel, Jr. for New Netherlands (New York) . He was made a Corpora lof a military company formed for protection against marauders and Indians on 07 Apr 1654. In August, 1660, he was appointed Magistrate for Harlem, serving several terms.
