Name-ComArthur Preston Walker is commonly known as Arthur Walker.4
Birth*He was born on 12 May 1890 in Granite, Chaffee County, Colorado, U.S.A., 39.043986,-106.262169. On his marriage certificate Arthur entered New Annan, Prince Edward Island, as his birth place, which is clearly not correct.5,6,7
He was the son of George Price Walker and Mary Adelaide Clark.2,3
(Witness) Group PhotoArthur Walker was included in a group photograph with Mary Adelaide Clark , circa 1894 in Summerside, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada.8

(Son) ImmigrationArthur Preston Walker immigrated with Mary Adelaide Clark to Little Shemogue, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada, 46.116510,-64.023376, in 1899; When Addie returned to Canada she lived with her son Arthur in the home of Thomas and Millicent (sister of Addie) Blacklock in Little Shemogue. Her future second husband, Ed Robinson, lived across the road and west of the Blacklock homestead. The 1901 census entry for Adelaide and Arthur show Arthur as born in Colorado, and year of immigration as 1899.9

(son) CensusArthur Walker was enumerated on the census of 31 March 1901 in the household of Mary Adelaide Clark in Little Shemogue, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada; Adelaide and Arthur were lodgers in the home of Isabella Smith. Having discovered where Addie had settled after her divorce in Colorado, I wondered why she decided on a small community in southeastern New Brunswick. She was born and raised in Prince Edward Island, and there would have been friends and family there. Examining a filmed copy of the original census page I discovered that her sister Millicent lived in the adjacent house with her husband and family.7
OccupationArthur Preston Walker was a moulder; the Amherst city directory listed Arthur as a border on La Planche St. in 1907 in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada.10
(Lodger) Census HeadHouseholdHe appeared on the census of 1 June 1911, as a lodger, in Amherst, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Adelaide (Ada on the census form) was head of household, but not a widow. There is an entry stating that "husband is in Jolicure, NB". Thomas and son Seymour were living on the Jolicure farm at the time of this census. Ada's other children were living with her in Amherst (Gertrude 22, Devonia 19, Gwendolyn 13 and Bruce 10). This must have been a boarding house as there were seven boarders, including Arthur Preston Walker. One must assume that through this connection with the Townshend family he met his future wife, Ella Mae Townshend. Thomas H. Townshend is a 1st cousin of Ella's father, Frank Townshend. Ada's husband Thomas was listed in the 1991 Census as head of household on the farm in Jolicure with son Seymour, 15.11
Occupation*He was a machinist with the Canadian National Railway in Moncton. in 1912.12,5
Note*Arthur Preston Walker and Ella Townshend were both Methodists. At the time of marriage, Arthur was a resident of Amherst, Nova Scotia, and Ella was a resident of Jolicure, Westmorland Co., New Brunswick. The witnesses to their wedding were Dudley A. Lambert and Grace Townshend (Ella's sister, who later married Alfred Green). Although they were both of the Methodist Church, the wedding took place at the home of John and Susan (Wallace) Galloway, in Jolicure, N.B. Susan Wallace was Ella's mother, married first to Frank Townshend and second to John Galloway.

There is a conflict re: Arthur's birth place and mother. According to his marriage certificate (to Ella Mae Townshend), he was born in New Annan, Prince Edward Island, and his mother was Mary Robinson. According to the church records on file at the Elmwood Cemetery in Moncton, Ella Mae gave his birth place as Granite, Colorado, and his mother as Adelaide Clark. Adelaide is a name that cropped up in conversations with Walkers in PEI September 2000. It has since been confirmed that Arthur's mother is Adelaide Clark. George Price Walker and Adelaide Clarke divorced in 1900. Mary Robinson is the person that George Price Walker married after he divorced Addie Clark.12
Living*He was living in Amherst, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada, in 1912.12
Marriage*He married Ella Mae Townshend, daughter of Joseph Frank Townshend and Susannah Wallace, on 26 June 1912, in Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada. They were married by license, by Thomas Hicks of Point de Bute. Arthur was a bachelor, machinist, Methodist, living in Amherst, Nova Scotia. Ella was a spinster, Methodist, living in Jolicure, Westmorland County, New Brunswick.12,13,14
Census HeadHousehold*Arthur Preston Walker was head of the household in the census of 1921 in 40 Bromley Ave, Moncton, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada, 46.097143,-64.790409. Enumerated in the household with Arthur (age 31) were his wife Ella Townshend (age 29), their sons George (age 8) and Lorne (age 1). Arthur was a machinist with the C.N.R. His year of immigration from America to Canada was incorrectly recorded as 1894. The actual year was 1899. At the time of this census they lived in the left half of the duplex, 40 Bromley Ave., that would later be occupied by their son Lorne and his wife Alice. Arthur and Ella then lived in the right half, 42 Bromley Ave.15

1921 Canada Census, 40 Bromley Ave., Moncton, Westmorland County, New Brunswick. Household of Arthur P. Walker, his wife Ella Townshend, their sons George and Lorne.
OccupationHe was a machinist with the C.N.R. (Canadian National Railway), living at 40 Bromley Ave. in 1926 in Moncton, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada.16
Retirement*He retired in 1950 as a machinist with the C.N.R. in Moncton.5
Residence*He and Ella Mae Townshend lived in 42 Bromley Ave., Moncton, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada, 46.097143,-64.790409. Their son Lorne and his wife Alice (McKinley) lived in the left half of the duplex at 40 Bomley Ave.4

The last residence of Lorne & Alice (McKinley) Walker, 40 Bromley Ave. (left side) and Arthur & Ella May (Townshend) Walker, 42 Bromley Ave. (right side), Moncton, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada.
Death*Arthur Preston Walker died on 23 May 1963, at age 73, in Moncton City Hospital, 135 MacBeath Ave., Moncton, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada, 46.104977,-64.806150; cause of death was Coronary Thrombosis. The story I received during a phone call from my uncle Lorne was that my grandfather Arthur had gone to the city hospital for his annual medical checkup, during which all physical signs were good. He then went to the desk to pay the bill, when he collapsed and died instantly. Arthur and Ella were living at 42 Bromley Ave. in Moncton when he died.

Death Registration for Arthur Preston Walker.
Biographical Note* There are several details in error recorded on his death certificate:
1. Length of stay at last residence was entered as 12 years. He lived at 40 Bromley Ave., Moncton, at least since 1926 when his name appeared in the City Directory.
2. Total years spent working as a machinist for the C.N.R. was recorded as 48 years. His year of retirement was recorded as 1950, which would mean he started working there in 1902 at the age of 12. In fact, his period of employment should have been recorded as 38 years, as he was shown to be a machinist with the C.N.R. as of 1912 (ref. marriage certificate)
3. Birthplace for his father was recorded as Scotland. He was actually born in New Annan, Prince Edward Island.
4. Birthplace for his mother was recorded as Scotland. She was actually born in Cape Traverse, Prince Edward Island.5

FuneralThe funeral was held on 27 May 1963 in Cadman's Funeral Home, Moncton, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada.20
Burial*He was buried on 27 May 1963 in Elmwood Cemetery, Moncton, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada, 46.110500,-64.776150. Black granite stone.
