Birth*George Cannon was born circa 1777 in Falmouth, Kings County, Nova Scotia.2
He was the son of Charles Cannon and Keziah Davison.2
Marriage*George Cannon married Elizabeth Hiscock.1,2
Biographical Note* Not many documented records exist for this family, to be sure. However, one can begin to piece together some of the 12 children, that number based upon the obituary of Elizabeth Hiscock. By the time George died, one of their children had died, leaving his obituary to state that 11 children were left. At this writing I don't know the identity of the child who predeceased George.
Until recent editing of this family the youngest child of George Cannon and Elizabeth Hiscock was Jane, born 13 June 1813. Some researchers had assumed a marriage year for this couple to be 1812. However, there is convincing evidence that they married much earlier, and had children previous to Jane.
Firstly, there is Sophia, born ca. 1797, who married William Rayner. In the obituary for George it was recorded that he died at the home of his son-in-law William Rayner. Clearly, this places Sophia as a daughter of George Cannon, born some 16 years before Jane. There had to be more children born between Sophia and Jane.
There is a George Cannon, born 1800, who married Sarah Horan, a blacksmith like his father. This should lead the researcher to logically add this George as a son of George Cannon and Elizabeth Hiscock. This newly found George follows 3 years after the birth of Sophia.
The next likely offspring of George Cannon and Elizabeth Hiscock is the elusive Elizabeth Cannon, born 1805, married first to Edward Rayner, married second to James Wood. There was a baptism that was common in the families of Sophia Cannon & William Rayner and Elizabeth Cannon & Edward Rayner. In the former family their two children, Sophia Elizabeth and Mary Jane, were baptized 4 December 1838, Church of England, Richmond Parish. In the latter family their son Edward was baptized the same day in the same church. Coincidence? I think not. This is compelling evidence that Sophia and Elizabeth were siblings, or at least very close cousins. I have decided to favour their relationship as siblings. Another part of the puzzle are the husbands of Sophia & Elizabeth Cannon, William Rayner and Edward Rayner, respectively. Were they siblings?
There are baptism records that confirm the parentage of Jane, Samuel, Charlotte and Lavinia as being George Cannon and Elizabeth Hiscock.3,4

(Witness) MarriageGeorge Cannon witnessed the marriage of Lavinia Cannon and James Glover on 23 December 1841 in St. John's Anglican Church, St. Eleanors, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, 46.419983,-63.811033; "James Glover (B) Lot 19 and Lavenia Cannon (S) of St. Eleanors, were married by license this 23rd Decr. 1841. In presence of William Glover, George Cannon." James was a tailor.5
Death*George Cannon died on 3 July 1861, in Lot 17, Prince County, Prince Edward Island; "On Wednesday, the third ultimate, at the residence of his son-in-law Mr. William Rayner, of Richmond (Parish), Lot 19, Mr. George Cannon in the 87th year of his age, after a lingering illness of about nine months, borne with resignation to the divine will, leaving behind eleven children, 87 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren to perpetuate his memory." The church burial record book for St. Eleanors declared he was in the 85 year of his age.6,7
Burial*He was buried on 5 July 1861 in St. John's Anglican Church Cemetery, St. Eleanors, Prince County, Prince Edward Island. "George Cannon of Lot 17, was buried at St. Eleanors on Friday the 5th day of July 1861, Aged 85 years. Herbert Read (officiating clergyman)." There is no marker.8
