Obituary: " SCHURMAN, Marguerite Omi -- 81, Halifax, died Tuesday in Camp
Hill Medical Centre. Born in Dartmouth, she was a daughter of
the late Edward and Ethel (Carter) Balcom. In her early years,
she was an outstanding paddler and track and field athlete. She
continued her love of sports throughout her life. She was active
in curling, golf, bowling and was past president of Ashburn Golf
and Country Club and Halifax Curling Club. Volunteer work and
church also played in a large part of her life. She was past
president of Grace Maternity Hospital Auxiliary and First Baptist
Church Women's Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, George;
a daughter, Marilyn (Mrs. Peter Corkum), Halifax; a son, Robert,
Moncton; a brother, Ronald, Dartmouth; eight grandchildren. She
was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Francis; a grand-daughter,
Kelly Schurman. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in
First Baptist Church, Halifax, Rev. John Boyd officiating.
