Biographical Note* | Daniel was a French Huguenot who escaped the persecutions shortly after the Edict of Nantes was revoked in 1685. A story told by Descendants was that he, his wife Jeanne Courier (or Couturier) and children were attempting to reach the French Coast with their children who were concealed in the panniers of a donkey, covered with fresh vegetables, a soldier asked what they were carrying, Jeanne replied 'vegetables for the market' the soldier stuck his sword into one of the panniers and left. They then found one of their sons with a sword wound in the thigh. |
