Mr. Cairns, who was a man of 70 years of age, was busily engaged on his farm at St. Eleanor's during the day and drove home about 7 o'clock, talking in his usual happy mood on the way, and to all appearance seeming in good health. On arriving at his home he partook of tea, and in a short time complained of a pain in the head, and about fifteen minutes thereafter, before medical aid could be summoned, he expired. The cause of death is only a supposition (apoplexy), and it would be well that in cases of a similar nature in the future, the cause of death be fully enquired into."4,5 |

"CAIRNS — The death occurred at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Saturday, March 1, 2003, of Wyman Cairns, of Wedgewood Manor, Summerside, aged 95 years.
"Born at Wilmot, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Winnifred (Yeo) Cairns.
"Dear father of Birdie (Hazen) Hogg of Sussex, N.B. and Ruth (Fred) Biason of Summerside.
"Special uncle of Brad (Phyllis) Clark of Summerside.
"Loving grandfather of Karen (George) Erb, Susan (Tom) Parker, Patti (Gordon) Holloway, Jackie (Gerard) Noonan, Ron (Sherylin) Biason, Paul (Jennifer) Rogers and Heather (Robert) McGrath.
"Survived by 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Moase and a brother, Brad (Helen) Cairns.
"Brother-in-law of Ernestine Scott Connell, Mary (Kenneth) MacLean and Jack (Louise) Marchbank.

He leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Birdie (Hazen) Hogg, Sussex, N.B. and Ruth (Fred) Biason, Summerside; grandchildren, Karen (George) Erb, Susan (Tom) Parker, Patti (Gordon) Holloway, Jackie (Gerard) Noonan, Ron (Sherylin) Biason, Paul (Jennifer) Rogers and Heather (Bob) McGrath; also 17 great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Brad (Phyllis) Clark and family; brother Brad (Helen) Cairns; sister Louise Moase, brother-in-law, John (Louise) Marchbank, sisters-in-law, Ernestine Scott-Connell and Mary (Kenneth) MacLean and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife Marjorie, his daughter Mary Rogers, grand-daughter Lesli Ann Biason and sisters; Helen Clark, Georgie Cairns and Kathleen Cairns (in infancy). Wyman farmed in Wilmot for many years. He and Marjorie, his wife of 65 years, lived in the old family homestead, and warmly welcomed all who came to visit. After the death of his wife, Wyman made his home in Andrew's lodge and later Wedgewood Manor, where many friends and relatives continued to visit him. Wyman had a great memory and a remarkable knowledge of world affairs. At the age of 92 he was able to do a two hour video for the Island Heritage series. He was highly respected in his community and was loved by his family and friends, he will be deeply missed. The funeral service was held at Trinity United Church, Summerside on March 4, 2003. The service was conducted by Rev. Don MacPherson. Wyman's daughter Birdie Hogg delivered the eulogy and sons-in-law Hazen Hogg and Fred Biason read the scriptures. A prayer was said by niece Rev. Gloria MacLean. Hymns were 'What A Friend We Have In Jesus' and 'In The Garden'. Soloist James Hodge rendered, 'The Holy City'. Organist and Choir Director was Christine Anderson-Gallant. In attendance were the Wilmot Women's Institute. Flower bearers were great-granddaughters; Jessica Erb, Sarah Holloway, Emily Holloway, Julia Noonan, Julie Parker and Maria McGrath. Honorary pallbearers were Helen and William Cairns, Janie Green, Tom and Betty Hall, Gladys and Reg MacRae, Helen and Vernon Millar, Geraldine Moase, Elda and Elton Sharpe, Jean andEnnis Small. Pallbearers were grandson Paul Rogers, great-grandson Eric Rogers and nephews Myles Clark, Leonard MacDonald, Garth Marchbank and Neil Scott. Burial will take place in the People's Cemetery, Summerside in the spring.
