Abigail Carpenter1
F, #59756, b. 9 April 1643, d. 5 March 1709/10
Note* | John Titus. b. Dec. 18, 1627 at St. Catherines, Middlesex Co., England. d. Apr. 16, 1690 at Rehoboth, Bristol Co., MA. Buried at Rehoboth. One of the original purchasers of the Rehoboth North Purchase (later Attleboro, Bristol Co., MA). Soldier in King Philip's War. m. 1st Rachel _____. Shed. ca. 1658, according to the Abridged Compendium of American Genealogy. Eugene Cole Zubrinsky, in his article, 'The Family of William Carpenter of Rehoboth, Massachusetts,' disputes the contention in The Carpenter Memorial that Abigail Carpenter was not John Titus's first wife when he states that 'Amos Carpenter's misreading original records and misrepresenting important evidence contribute to two other major errors concerning certain of William's children. One is that Abigail Carpenter was not the first wife of John Titus but married him in 1659, making her the mother of only the last four of his eight children. Carpenter states that 'on the Rehoboth Town Records the family is recorded as the children of John Titus by wife Rachel.' but examination of the record indicates that all eight children of John Titus were 'borne off his wife Abigail.'' m. 2nd Abigail Carpenter, daughter of William and Abigail (Briant), in1659 (1649 according to Zubrinsky). She b. Apr. 9, 1643 in Weymouth, Norfolk Co., MA according to the Carpenter Memorial. However, there is a baptismal on May 31, 1629 (see Eugene Cole Zubrinsky article). d. Mar. 5, 1710 in Rehoboth. She remarried to Josiah Palmer on Nov. 9, 1692 after John’s death. He d. Jun. 22, 1709. John was left ten pounds in his mother’s will, to be paid him by his brother, Content. |
