John Wiggins Fisher was a folk historian, radio personality, an executive of the Canadian Tourism Association, a Newspaper Publisher (Northwest Publications in British Columbia) and was dubbed as 'Mr. Canada'. One of the many articles about John Wiggins Fisher was printed in Reader's Digest, December 1967 entitled, 'Meet Mr.Canada'. I have another typed speech of John Fisher's (directly obtained form John W. Fisher) that he did on the CBC in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in May of1980, regarding the ship 'Nora Wiggins' that was built by Nora's grandfather named after John's mother. Note* | SIDNEY GEORGE FISHER, son of James Logan and Ann Eliza (George) Fisher,born March 2, 1809, died July 25, 1871, was educated at the GermantownAcademy and Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, graduating at thelatter institution in 1827. He studied law in the office of JosephIngersoll, Esq., and was admitted to the Philadelphia bar, February 19,1831, and practiced for a number of years. He was a prolific writer onpolitical topics. A great number of his articles, written originally forthe North American, under the nom de plume of 'Cecil,' and later of'Kent,' were largely copied by other newspapers, and a number of themwere later published in pamphlet form, under various titles; among them,'Kansas and the Constitution,' 'The True Interest of the Border States,''Laws of Race in Relation to Slavery,' and a number of others. He alsowrote a pamphlet urging the re-election of President Abraham Lincoln,which was published by the Union League. He also published number ofarticles on agriculture and political economy as related to the tillingof the soil, and was a frequent speaker at agricultural meetings andfairs.
