(Witness) Census HeadHouseholdCharlotte Agnes Galloway was enumerated on the census of 1911 in the household of William Galloway, in Gladstone, Manitoba, Canada; included in the household with William (age 47) were his wife Sadie Dotten (age 28 - should be 38), children William (age 11), Roper (age 9), Lottie (age 7) and Sadie (age 1). Also in the household was William sister-in-law, May Carswell (age 22), born in Manitoba. The entry for William's occupation is barely legible as 'construction'. The family religion was Presbyterian. The next household was that of Roper Galloway and his wife. It is assumed that this Roper Galloway is William's brother, based upon the closeness of their ages, they were neighbours, they were both in construction, they both emigrated the same year in 1885, and one of William's sons was named Roper.2

In the 1891 census there was a Kate Lamond, age 1 year, born in Kettins, Forfarshire, listed as a boarder. Kate Brand in the 1901 census, age 11, born in Kettins, Forfarshire, listed as an adopted daughter. Although the surnames for Kate are different, it is my opinion that they are one and the same girl. Until Scotland releases the actual page images to be viewed on-line to prove this thought, it is possible that there was an error in the transcription. Occupations listed were as follows: Jane's sons John and Robert were masons, and her son-in-law William Watson, was a plumber. There were three boarders in the household, namely Joshua Dow (age 26, butcher), William McCulloch (age 25, coachman) and William Barnett (age 37, butcher). Name-ComJohn Nicoll Mcl. Galloway is commonly known as John Galloway.3
Birth*He was born on 17 April 1879 in Coupar Angus, Perthshire, Scotland.4
He was the son of Thomas Galloway and Jane Donaldson.2
(Son) Census HeadHouseholdJohn Galloway was enumerated on the census of 1881 in the household of Thomas Galloway, as a son, in George Street, Coupar Angus, Angus, Scotland; included in the household of Thomas Galloway were his wife Jane, and children George (age 11), Jane (age 7), Thomas (age 4) and John (age 1). Sarah Farquhar (age 14) was also recorded, as a boarder, no occupation. Thomas was a blacksmith.5
(Son) Census HeadHouseholdJohn Galloway was enumerated on the census of 1891 in the household of Jane Donaldson, as a son, in 54 George St., Coupar Angus, Angus, Scotland; the town of Coupar Angus was transferred from the county of Angus to Perthshire sometime after the 1891 census. Included in Jane's household were her children George (age 21), Jane (age 18), Thomas (age 14), John (age 11), Maggie (age 9) and Robert (age 6). There was also Kate Lamond (age 1), listed as a boarder, born 1890 in Kettins, Forfarthshire. Kate's relationship is unknown at this writing, however she is likely the same girl called Kate Brand, age 11 in the 1901 census, listed as 'adopted daughter'. Jane was listed as "Wife", yet her husband Thomas did not appear in this or the 1901 census returns.6
Emigration*John Nicoll Mcl. Galloway emigrated in 1896 from Scotland.7
(Son) Census HeadHouseholdHe was enumerated on the census of 1901 in the household of Jane Donaldson, as a son, in George St., Anvie House, Coupar Angus, Perthshire, Scotland; included in Jane's household were her children Margaret (age 19), Robert (age 16), Jane (age 28), her husband William Watson (age 31), their children John (age 6) and Thomas (age 4). Also in the household were Kate Brand (age 11), adopted daughter of Jane and Sarah Farquharson (age 74), niece of Jane. As in the 1891 census, Jane was listed as a "Wife", not widow, although her husband Thomas was not listed st this census either.8
(Groom) Marriage*John Nicoll Mcl. Galloway married Susannah Wallace, daughter of George Wallace and Sarah Stapley Cannon, on 22 June 1910 in Moncton, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada; they were married by license, by Rev. Thomas Hicks of Point de Bute. John was a stonemason, a bachelor, and Presbyterian. Susan was a widow, Methodist, and resident of Jolicure, Westmorland County, New Brunswick. Witnesses were Ella Townshend of Jolicure, Susan's daughter by her first marriage to Frank Townshend, and David Galloway of Amherst, Nova Scotia (his relationship is unknown at this writing).2
(Husband) Census HeadHouseholdJohn Galloway was enumerated on the census of 7 June 1911 in the household of Susannah Wallace, in Jolicure Lake, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada; included in the household were Susan's husband, John Galloway, son Leslie, daughters Ella, Grace and Daisy, and Daisy's daughter Eva. The family religion was Methodist, except for John Galloway, who was Presbyterian. John's emigration year from Scotland was entered as 1896. Susan, John and Leslie were entered as farmers. Ella was a milliner, living in Amherst, Nova Scotia.7

Moved*John Nicoll Mcl. Galloway and Susannah Wallace moved to Moncton, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada, in 1916.9
Census HeadHousehold*John Galloway was head of the household in the census of 1921 in 9 Ralph St., Moncton, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada; included in the household with John (age 42) was his wife Susan/Susannah Wallace (age 50). John was Presbyterian, Susan was Methodist. His year of immigration was recorded here as 1906, compared to 1896 in the 1911 census.10

(Witness) Census HeadHouseholdSadie Elizabeth Galloway was enumerated on the census of 1911 in the household of William Galloway, in Gladstone, Manitoba, Canada; included in the household with William (age 47) were his wife Sadie Dotten (age 28 - should be 38), children William (age 11), Roper (age 9), Lottie (age 7) and Sadie (age 1). Also in the household was William sister-in-law, May Carswell (age 22), born in Manitoba. The entry for William's occupation is barely legible as 'construction'. The family religion was Presbyterian. The next household was that of Roper Galloway and his wife. It is assumed that this Roper Galloway is William's brother, based upon the closeness of their ages, they were neighbours, they were both in construction, they both emigrated the same year in 1885, and one of William's sons was named Roper.1
