| Note* | Son of Thomas Lapham who came to this country from Tenterden, County ofKent, England, about 1630, and settled at Scituate, Mass., where heprobably died. Lived for a time at Providence, and for two years, 1680-2, at Newport,settling finally at Dartmouth, Mass. ==================================== Three persons bearing the name of Lapham early settled in New England,two of them in Massachusetts and the other in Rhode Island. The first wasThomas, who came to Scituate previous to 1635, and some of whosedescendants are recorded in this Register. The second was JOHN, who was aweaver and came from Devonshire in England. He was born in 1635, andsettled in Providence, R. I., where in 1673 he married Mary, daughter ofWilliam Mann of Providence. His house was burned by the Indians and heafterwards moved to Dartmouth, Mass., where he resided until his decease.He had four sons and one daughter. His descendants are found in RhodeIsland, in western New York, and in several of the western States.Increase Allen Lapham, LL. D. of Milwaukie, is of this descent.
