Sherwood (age 10) and Electa Anna Sherwood (age 5), daughters of Lorana Bowen & Frank Sherwood.5

Included in the household with Elias Sr. (age 62) were his wife Lydia (age 58), children Lydia (age 19), Daniel (age 17), Azem F. (age 15) & Judson (age 11), and granddaughter Electa Sherwood (age 11). Elias, Daniel & Azem were farmers.6
(Witness) Census HeadHouseholdLydia Wellington was enumerated on the census of 30 August 1860 in the household of Elias Bowen Sr. in Machias, Cattaraugus County, New York, U.S.A.. There is some confusion about the line entries in this census. Daniel was still a young man, newly married, and named first in the household, implying that he was Head of Household. Yet, the entry for the value of the farm was recorded on the line for his father Elias. I am assuming that Elias was actually Head of Household. Included in the household with Elias (age 67), his wife Lydia Wellington (age 61), their son Daniel (age 21) and his wife Rebecca (age 20).7
