Marie Caroline Malenfant1
F, #42949, b. 20 July 1847, d. 1938
Biographical Note* | She lived in Skowhegan ME with George Edward Sr & Ella her daughter, and moved with them to Nashua NH, finally moving to CA to live with her son Thomas, his wife Nita and their two sons, where she died. Her remains/ashes were shipped back to Pt de Bute where they were interred with Dixon (near back half of cemetery on rt.)
She was a hatmaker by trade, and had a loom with which she made fabric and special cloth. When she was staying with Ella and George Edward Oulton in Nashua, NH in the 1920's, she had her loom in the front room of their house, and spent many hours at it. She also tended the grapes in their back yard.
Anne O Galt grew up calling her "Cookoo" instead of Caroline. She tells us she was quite deaf in her later years ("deaf as a bat"). Also, despite her French-Canadian background, she had only a slight accent. Only a few words belied a French accent with an emphasis on a different syllable or using different consonant sounds, etc. (eg: "garage" she pronounced "garash").
1851 census for Victoria Cty, NB has her father with his family living in the parish of St. Francis. (page 011 of the census for that county)
All children born in Van Buren , ME were baptized at St. Bruno's Parish, Van Buren, ME
NAME:Caroline .. - 1891 Census, Westmorland Co, Westmorland P (189-2) BP: HUS:Dixon Oulton age 44; parents b. Que; Methodist
FL- A question mark was placed by this name in computer record files of William Brown Oulton. Though these computer record files of 1978 vintage are in the files of William at Christina Lake;it seems unlikely that they were created by William as he has gone through them and corrected date etc and has signed his name to the same. They are predominately Oulton family records and show some of the children not listed in William Brown Oultons records however they are lacking dates, some of which have been filled in by William. Also the 1978 computer print out did not have a place of location there none of the information I have typed from this source has location with the exception of those added by William. ashes were returned for burial at St. Bruno Roman Catholic Church by Rev. Ant. Gosselin 44 in 1891 census.1 |
Birth* | Marie Caroline Malenfant was born on 20 July 1847 in Van Buren, Maine.2 |

Note* | Ida Malosh was born on 6 Apr 1858. She died on 21 Feb 1928 in buried in Trysl Cemetery/Mt. Zion, Clayton, WA. (Heresay is that Ida was a housekeeper for the family while Maranda was still alive.) He started to build his new home before the death of Maranda, but did not complete it until after he and Ida were married. No marriage date available. Frederick and Ida then moved Tuuahome, TN where they settled and began raising his second family, 3 boys and 4 girls. In about 1912 they followed his brother William's footsteps to Loon Lake, WA. where according to William there was a paradise with good soil, lots of land available, etc. They gave up their beautiful home and farm and moved west in high hopes of bettering themselves. Apparently they ended up with hardly enough to keep the family in food and clothing. Their first home was about 1 mile west of highway 395 where he planted an orchard, some of which still remains. For reasons known only to them, they built another home across the little valley and across the railroad tracks among some huge boulders which seems a very unlikely place to build a home. Both places have long since been destroyed by fire. Frederick died in 1915, and is buried in the Loon Lake cemetery. Ida then moved to Clayton WA where she lived until her death on 20 Feb 1928. Frederick K. Stelting and Ida Malosh had the following children: +35 i. Russel Stelting. 36 ii. Emma Stelting died in 1888. She was born on 23 Feb 1888. died in infancy 37 iii.
