In part quoted 'That on or about the 2md day of Jul 1862 while at Fort Lyon Fairfax VA he contracted Scealic Rhumatism and Rhumatic Synanitus(?) which wholly disabled him from following his occupation which is that of a farmer. Had been Mayor of Pipestone, and StateRepresentative from This District. 'Practically without warning, death came to A. S. Dyer, respectedcitizen of Pipestone, Saturday morning at seveno'clock......................... Col. Dyer, as he was affectionately called by his friends, was a citizenof many admirable traits. Honest as the day was long, he was a goodfriend and neighbor. His life history is intimately bound into thehistory of Pipestone, as a pioneer merchant, member of the villagecouncil, Representative in the state legislature from this district, and manytimes Mayor of Pipstone. Ambrose Spencer Dyer was a native of New York State being born in OneidaCounty, June 19, 1845 having thus attained the age of 80 years, 8 months,and 21 days. He came to Illinois with his parents in early boyfood, andlater they moved to Houston County, Minnesota, he and his father engagingin business at Whalen. It was there he brought his bride, whose maidenname was Martha Vance, and whom he wedded on Oct 16, 1873 at LaCrosse,Wisconsin. They resided there until 1879, and in December of that year,he opened a general store in Pipestone. He continued in business until 1892, when he retired...................... Besides the bereaved wife, three sons and other relatives survive. Thesons are: Prof. William P. Dyer of New York City, Bay S. Dyer of Seattle, Washington, and Howard V. Dyer of Beverly, Washington.
