Elephel Fitzgerald1,2,3
F, #7874, b. circa 1668, d. before 4 October 1748
Biographical Note* | Elephel's ancestry is unknown for certain. But according to the History of the Slocums, 'Tradition--agreeing in families widely separated for generations--says that Elephel Fitzgerald was a lady of high birth, and some families hold that she was among the number of young women who were forcibly brought to America and sold for wives to respectable purchasers--the purchase money in this instance amounting to about $600. The tradition is possibly true... Mrs. Julia (Ferris) Pearce of Pawling, NY--a descendant of Eliezer and Elephel--communicated to the writer in 1881 the tradition held in her family concerning the coming of Elephel Fitzgerald to America, as follows: A daughter of Earl Edmund Fitzgerald of Dublin became affianced to an English officer, against her father's will, and eloped with him taking with her a younger sister, this Lady Elephel, whom they brought to America, perhaps to further the success of their plans.4' |
Birth* | Elephel Fitzgerald was born circa 1668 in Dublin, Ireland.6 |
| She was the daughter of Earl Edmund Fitzgerald and Marie Whittaker.4,5 |
Marriage* | Elephel Fitzgerald married Eliezer Slocum, son of Giles Slocum and Joan Cook, on 26 November 1687, in Portsmouth or Dartmouth, Bristol County, Rhode Island.7,6 |
Death* | Elephel Fitzgerald died before 4 October 1748, in Dartmouth, Bristol County, Rhode Island.6 |
