Quoting from a tourist brochure: 'A two-story GreekRevival style house distinguished by four broad pilasters gracing it'sfacade. This house was built in 1840 for Thomas Hill, the oldest son ofDaniel Hill, the first settler to reside in Calais. Thomas was a seacaptain and gathered a variety of materials for his house on his voyages,white marble from Italy, mahogany from South America, and a pewterchandelier from Paris. He employed highly skilled workman to create atruly unique home. The house was occupied by the Hill family until 1944and remained in the family until 1960.' |
