Biographical Note* In 1906 he came to the United States thru Ellis Island, and settled in Portland, Maine. He went back to Sicily a couple times and in 1910 he had a daughter born in Sicily, the first child of 9 to live. In 1912 he sent for his wife and daughter and they came to this country. His daughter's name was Gaetana Francesca Amoroso which was changed legally to Ida Frances Amoroso in 1943 when she was naturalized as an American citizen. He came to this country the last time on April 21, 1910 on the S.S. Sannio from Palermo, Sicily to Boston, Massachusetts. The Cape Cod Summers Family had Francesco's name inscribed on the 'Wall of Immigrants' at Ellis Island. His name is on panel #14.

Biographical Note* Name given at birth was 'Gaetana Francesca Amoroso’. She had her name changed to Ida Frances when she was naturalized in 1944. She was the first and only child to be born and live in Sicily. Her mother had 4 miscarriages before she was born. The remainder of her brothers and sisters were all born in Portland, Maine. She came to the USA on May 24, 1912 on the S.S. Canopic (White Star Line) with her mother, as her Father was alreadyhere. She landed in Boston, Massachusetts from Palermo, Sicily. She and her parents' church in Calatafimi, Sicily was: Chiesa S.S. Crocifisso (Holy Cross). The 'Canopic' was built in 1900 for the Dominion Line as the ‘Commonwealth' by Harland & Wolff. Belfast; This was a 12,097 gross ton ship, length 578.3 feet X beam 59.3 feet, one funnel, two masts, twin-screw and a service speed of 16 knots. Social Security Number: 004-28-6232.

Note*[Summers.FTW] Commonly known as 'Lennie'& his nickname was'Nuddy', aas the Nickname forLeonardo in Italian is 'Nardino', and it was shortened to Nuddy. LennieWas in the Navy in WWII. Saw duty in the Pacific on A Destroyer Escort.He gave his Nephew Albert Summers Jr. a piece of a Japanese Kamikazeeaircraft, which Albert no longer has. Lennie's ship was in Tokyo Bay,when the Japanese signed their Unconditional Surrender. Lennie was aFireman in the Navy(Red Stripes). After WWII and before Lennis married,he caught Pneumonia and was given the Last Rites of the Catholic Churchby Monsignor Domingo of St. Peters Church on Federal Street in Portland,Maine. Monsignor Domingo was assisted at the Last Rites by Lennie'sNephew, A.L. Summers Jr. This was the first & last time Albert everassisted in a last rites ceremony.

Marriage*Leonardo Amoroso married Angelina Tagliavia circa 1890. 
Death*Leonardo Amoroso died on 29 July 1946, at age 83, in New York City, New York; Leonardo died in a tenement fire on July 29, 1946. He was living with his wife Angelina. He was 83 yrs old and Angelina was 65. The story goes that he got out of the building, then went back in to get his shoes and was overcome by the smoke and flames. He died and Angelina suffered 1st degree burns.
