The family religion was Baptist.4
Death*He died on 24 February 1917, at age 60, in Fredericton, York County, New Brunswick, Canada; Cause of death was pneumonia. The obituary of Dell Gunter was given to Edwin Wayne Gunter by Joanne (Uzzell) Renninger and reads as follows:
'Fredericton Loses A Beloved Citizen' The Late Dell Gunter succumbs to an attack of pneumonia. There was general sorrow throughout the city of Fredericton this morning when word went around that Dell Gunter, proprietor of the York street stables, one of the capital's best known citizens, passed away. Not only in the city but throughout the country and the central part of the province, there will be hundreds of the deceased's acquaintances and friends to whom the sad news will come as a shock and a calamity. To many of these, of course, it may mitigate the blow that announcement was made last week of Mr. Gunter's serious illness, which of itself was a surprise inasmuch as during his whole life sickness of any kind was something to him personally unknown; and the deceased's condition was since reported in the press from day to day. But to all whose privilege it was to be immediately acquainted with him as a man there will be a sense of personal loss in the death of Mr. Gunter, not to be atoned. The late Mr.Gunter was in his 62nd year and was born in Bear Island, York County, which he left in early life to settle down in the Nashwaak valley, subsequently moving to Boiestown. He was the son of Samuel Gunter, now a resident of Fredericton and for the past several days in precarious health. He married Miss Martha Richards, daughter of the well known lumber operator, the late William Richards, of which there are now living besides his widow, three sons and four daughters, the first mentioned being Dr. J. H. Gunter and Mr. Wendell Gunter of Philadelphia, and Mrs.Andrew Gunter of at home; and the daughters, Mrs. C. C. Camp of this city, Mrs. Chip McCloskey of Toronto, Miss Marion Gunter of Philadelphia and Miss Elizabeth Gunter at home; there are also two grandchildren. The other near surviving relatives of the deceased are his two brothers, Frank Gunter of Dumfries and Herbert Gunter of this city. The late Mr.Gunter - - everywhere and most familiarly and affectionately known as'Dell' - - Moved from Boiestown to Fredericton some years ago when the late Israel Golding (at one time also a landed proprietor of the outer country) arranged for the sale of his livery stable business in Fredericton in order to take up the duties of city treasurer; and the business and premises were bought out by Mr. Gunter. This transfer was the beginning and foundation of Mr. Gunter's business career in Fredericton. Dell Gunter had made good in every walk of life. Possessed of rare business instincts, he had before entering city life carried on successfully active operations in the lumber woods and on the farm; and one of the most outstanding features of his make-up was his wonderful vitalizing energy, strong in initiative and sustained by a dogged perseverance. His keen foresight seldom failed him; and his enterprises by which he accumulated large and profitable properties, were along industrial lines and such as resulted to the general good of the community. In the battle of life Mr. Gunter stood shoulder to shoulderwith his men and always figuratively speaking, with his coat off. One central fact in his record to be treasured in after years was his strict business integrity. The word Dell Gunter was proverbially as good as his bond. By Mr. Gunter's death there is removed not only a good citizen whose place is hard to fill, but a most genial personality. He was a human hearted man, of finest sensibilities, of a nature socially that endeared him to all, making the separation one to be followed by the insistent and incredible sense of loss. The remains of the deceased will be interred at the Rual Cemetery, the funeral to take place from the house at 2:30 on Tuesday afternoon, the ceremony to be conducted by Rev.Mr. Ferguson.1
Burial*He was buried on 27 February 1917 in Rural Cemetery, Fredericton, York County, New Brunswick, Canada.1

Name-ComFrederick Hurd Gunter is commonly known as Fred Gunter.1
Note*Frederick Hurd Gunter . A Vancouver Newspaper article entitled 'Berefit of Home and Breadwinner in a Day' the following article was summarized. Fred Gunter was a carpenter and had been steadily employed ever since coming to this city (Vancouver) two years ago. He is a native of Bear Island, N.B., which province his wife also comes from, Before coming to Vancouver, the business where Mr. Gunter had been employed burned and then his home also burned. He had intended to come west and bearing up well under the unexpected blow, he said good-bye to his wife and little ones in August 1910 and left to seek his fortune on the Pacific coast. Working hard all winter, he saved up enough to bring them out, his wife staying for the meantime at her own home. After they came here, they continued to save a little and he bought a 33-foot lot in South Vancouver, making a cash payment and paying a little by instalment. This is the lot on which their tent was situated. Mr. Gunter was collecting honey from beehives on his lot when he was stung badly and was taken to Vancouver Hospital where he remained in a coma for almost a week. Doctors were not able to help him and he died. Early Sunday morning between 1 and 2 a.m., a neighbor was awakened by Mrs. Sadie Gunter in night robes, crying that their tent was afire. In a few minutes many of the colony of tent dwellers were on the scene, but the fire had enveloped everything and only a few trunks containing their clothing could be removed before the whole fabric and the furniture were reduced to ashes. Mrs. Gunter had been up with the baby, who had been sick. The lamp glass had been broken and a candle was being used. While she was in one part of the tent, the candle became over-turned and set fire to the bedclothes where the little girl was sleeping. In a minute everything was ablaze. The boys could shift for themselves, but the little girl did not realize the danger. Mrs. Gunter had her six month old baby to look after, but Albert, the eldest boy, ran in and rescued his sister in the nick of time. The little family slept the rest of the night in improvised beds at a kind neighbor's place. There are four boys, the eldest, Albert being 13; Louis is 10 and Freddie is 4. Lawrence, the baby is six months old. Viola is two years and a half. So small are they that the eldest hardly realizes their calamity. 'we are moving again', shouted Freddie to a friend, as he viewed with joy the carting away of their smal belongings. Now the children play around the yard beside their temporary home wondering where their papa is, while within Mrs. Gunter (is wondering) what is going to become of them., for with her baby, she is unable to go to work and earn the amount to keep the wolf from the door. Mrs. Gunter wired Leverette Gunter, Fred's brother, in Bear Island who wired them the money for the family and the body to be returned to New Brunswick. Three months after Fred's death, his father, Judson died.
