'I am not ashamed; for I know whom I believed, and am persuaded that Him is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him, against that day.' - 2nd Timothy 1; 12. Mary, 8th child of Edward McCoy Coy and Amy Titus was twice married. First to David Morris, second to Leveret Bradley. She had several ups and downs in her life, sometimes poor, at other times quite well off as regards to property, especially in the latter part of her life. She remained a staunch Presbyterian all her and her latter years wrote an account of her religious life, which might be a lot more interesting to readers now, if she had put therein more of the general happenings of that time. NOTE: Excerpt from first chapter of her book -- ' I was born in Gagetown, Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada, 01 Sep, 1771. My parents came to this province (New Brunswick) from Pomfret, State of Connecticut, in the year 1763. My father's name was Edward Coy 'McCoy', Sr. But being brought up by his grandfather, who dropped the Mc, it was not again resumed. 'My mother's maiden name was Amy Titus. They were members of the Presbyterian Church, and had a large family of eleven children, six sons and five daughters, of whom I was the fourth daughter and the eighth child. As the understanding of their children matured, they instructed them in the ways of religion, restricting them from all they conceived injurious to their best interests, and furnishing them with such education as their situation and circumstance admitted - being little more than they learned at home, excepting the two youngsters. 'Being among the first settlers in this new country, they labored under serious dis-advantages for many years. My third sister (I was informed by my parents) was the first female born of English or American parents up the river Saint John. My mother was of a weakly constitution, and my father losing his eyesight, became incapable of labor, which was very detrimental to out temporal interests. But, glory be to God, for all his mercies, by whose kind providence ways and means for our comfortable support were furnished for many years before my fathers death. (' There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked; they are like the troubled sea, whose waves cast up mire and dirt. Mary Frances ‘May or Mayme’ Coy was the 5th child born to Leverett David and Frances Jane (Ennis) Coy. Auntie May or Mamye was the youngest child of the family. She grew up in the family home in the Latona district at 4218 Latona Ave. North (near the inter-section of NE 8th Ave. and 45th Ave. NE, which is still there, but is in sad need of repair, A picture of the house is in Mayme's scrap book. After her father, Leverett, who died in 1913, she helped her mother with cooking and housekeeping for roomers and boarders they took in during World War I. Mayme met Howard Anderson Barber in an 'over the back fence' romance, as he lived at a boarding house just behind their home. Her sister, Clara, met her husband, Thomas Myer Reeder over the same fence. Auntie May helped her mother, Frances Jane (Frank) Ennis also at her job as a cook at the Latona Elementary School, built in 1917, at 40th NE, 42nd Ave., Seattle, Washington, which is still in use after many years, but is possibly doomed to be torn down eventually. (1997) This account was contributed by Mary Phyliss 'Phyliss' (Reeder) Fletcher -- March 1978.
