In May, 1911, Emiline Crandall Voorhis passed through the Pearly Gates, being the last survivor of the children of Tanner and Susan Crandall. Itwas at the Voorhis home in the afternoon of the day of the funeral, thatthe family and relatives were gathered and it was proposed that a reunionof the two families, the Crandalls and the Lakes, be organized andobserved annually. The suggestions met with approval of all present and the society wasformed by electing William H. Vorhis president, Eva Stamp secretary, andCrayton H. Sigerfoos treasure. The society held their reunion on thethirteenth day of June, 1911, at the fairgrounds at Cassopolis, and havemet annually since. It was at one of these gatherings that it was voted to choose a historianand Frances Lake was chosen. She served one year and resigned on accountof ill health and C. H.
