Mr. Gardiner was ailing for some time, but was in tolerable health and able to move about, until a very few days before his death. In the course of his eminently successful and useful career through life, he occupied some of the most prominent and honorable positions in the country. He was appointed by the Crown, a Legislative Councillor for Prince Edward Island, in 1860 - a position which he held for three years. In 1864, he was High Sheriff of this County, and President of the Summerside Bank from 1866 to 1869. Mr. Gardiner died on Thursday the 10th inst., in the 76th year of his age, and was interred at Centreville, Bedeque, on Saturday."
