| Census | She was head of the household in the census in 1891 in 54 George St., Coupar Angus, Angus, ScotlandG. the town of Coupar Angus was transferred from the county of Angus to Perthshire sometime after the 1891 census. Included in Jane's household were her children George (age 21), Jane (age 18), Thomas (age 14), John (age 11), Maggie (age 9) and Robert (age 6). There was also Kate Lamond (age 1), listed as a boarder, born 1890 in Kettins, Forfarthshire. Kate's relationship is unknown at this writing, however she is likely the same girl called Kate Brand, age 11 in the 1901 census, listed as 'adopted daughter'. Jane was listed as "Wife", yet her husband Thomas did not appear in this or the 1901 census returns.5 |
| Census | She was head of the household in the census in 1901 in George St.; Anvie House, Coupar Angus, Perthshire, ScotlandG. included in Jane's household were her children Margaret (age 19), Robert (age 16), Jane (age 28), her husband William Watson (age 31), their children John (age 6) and Thomas (age 4). Also in the household were Kate Brand (age 11), adopted daughter of Jane and Sarah Farquharson (age 74), niece of Jane. In the 1891 census there was a Kate Lamond, age 1 year, born in Kettins, Forfarshire, listed as a boarder. Kate Brand in the 1901 census, age 11, born in Kettins, Forfarshire, listed as an adopted daughter. Although the surnames for Kate are different, it is my opinion that they are one and the same girl. Until Scotland releases the actual page images to be viewed on-line to prove this thought, it is possible that there was an error in the transcription. Occupations listed were as follows: Jane's sons John and Robert were masons, and her son-in-law William Watson, was a plumber. There were three boarders in the household, namely Joshua Dow (age 26, butcher), William McCulloch (age 25, coachman) and William Barnett (age 37, butcher). As in the 1891 census, Jane was listed as a "Wife", not widow, although her husband Thomas was not listed st this census either.6 |
