| Biographical Note | When the Jamieson Mills in New Annan came up for sale in 1878 Edward's father bought the property, and established Edward as the proprietor of flour, carding, cloth and grist mills. The property included a farm and a home in which Ed and Phemie raised their family of four daughters and one son. By the time Ed took over the Jamieson mill, a saw mill had been closed. The carding mill continued operation during warm weather. Dyeing cloth was another operation that continued to serve home weavers. The grist mill remained in operation for many years, where farmers brought their grain to be stone ground into "Island" flour, whole wheat flour, cream of wheat, oatmeal and bran. The Wright mill pond in New Annan was a place of recreation, a place for trout fishing in summer and skating parties in winter. [Note: The preceding story was extracted from The Wrights of Bedeque, Vol. 1, p. 95, by Doris Muncey Haslam, 1978.] The Wright mill was known to still be in operation in 1881 as recorded in the 1881 census ![]() Residence and mill property of Edward J.
