Obituary: "We have seldom been called upon to perform a sadder duty than to record the death of our fellow citizen and friend, Mr. D. Montgomery Waugh, who passed away at his residence in Summerside last Friday night at the early age of fifty years. He was of that class of citizen that it is hard and sorrowful for any community to lose even by the process of old age, but for such to be cut off from us in the prime of life is truly a matter of regret. The late Mr. Waugh was a quiet, unassuming manly man. He was well known for his scrupulous honesty and unselfishness in dealing with his fellow man. These and other qualities had won for him hosts of friends far and near who will always cherish the memory of this kind and thoughtful citizen and friend now passed to the Great Beyond, but whose years among us were not spent in vain.

Born in Summerside, the late Mr. Waugh began his business career in the store of Messrs. Clark, Robblee & Clark, which many years ago went out of existence. Afterwards he was with the late Mr. Wm. Reid, and later with the late R. T. Holman. Some 15 years ago he with Mr. W. S. Steeves opened the well-known and prosperous business on Water St. still trading under the style of Messrs. Wright & Steeves, although Mr. Waugh has been the sole and popular proprietor for some years. He was a prominent Oddfellow, a member of Prince Edward Lodge, and for a term held the honourable position of Deputy District Grand Master. He was also a member of the Canadian Order of Foresters and was for some years on the Board of Management of the Presbyterian Church, and also served a term as Town Councillor.

An only son died in early manhood, but both his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Waugh, of Summerside, survive him; also one brother, Mr. Willard Waugh of Alberton. To the sorrowing widow, who has the profound sympathy of the entire community in her sorrow, and relatives we join an unusually wide circle of friends in tendering our sincere condolence."1,2

Death*Henry H. Waugh died on 21 February 1910, at age 15, in Summerside, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada; Obituary: "Heartfelt sympathy goes out to D. M. and Mrs. Waugh, Summerside, in the almost sudden death of their son Henry, their only child, which occurred Monday morning after a brief illness. He had been slightly indisposed during the week but was up and about the house until Sunday forenoon when a serious change developed. He grew gradually worse and although three doctors were in attendance nothing could be done and he passed into unconsciousness within a few hours, remaining in that condition until Monday morning about eleven when the end came. The cause of death was diabetes.

Deceased, who was in his sixteenth year, was an unusually strong and apparently healthy boy, and had been employed as a clerk in his father’s store for some months. Everybody that knew him loved him, and he was the idol of his home, the constant companion of his father and mother, in every way an ideal, healthy, manly boy. His death, coming as it did almost without warning and while apparently in the enjoyment of the best of health, just on the threshold of manhood is a shock to the whole community and a cursing blow to the father and mother whose plans for the future centered in their only child. The funeral takes place on Thursday at 2 p.m."3,1

Death*He died on 24 July 1924, in home, Wilmot, Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Canada; Obituary: "On July 24th the home of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Waugh of Wilmot was saddened when the Angel of Death silently entered and placed the cold seal of death on their only child - little Herman, a bright and lovable child of a little over three years of age.??The cheer and sunlight have gone from the home, - yet, does not his chubby fingers point the way to a fairer and brighter day? Are we not taught "Suffer little children to come unto Me, for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven."??The neighbours and friends hasten to join in heartfelt sympathy with Mr. and Mrs. Waugh in this their hour of bereavement. May they find peace and comfort in God's blessed assurance. As the winds are tempered to the shorn lamb, may He bring peace to their troubled hearts, and in His blessed promises may they find solace.??Funeral services were conducted at the house by their pastor, Rev. A. K. Herman; Rev. D. K. Ross and Rev. Hensley Stavert assisting at the cemetery. Tenderly were the remains laid at rest in the Baptist cemetery, Central Bedeque."2,1
