Obituary (Agriculturist, 4 July 1929): "Tragic Accident at St. Eleanors

A tragic accident occurred last night at St. Eleanors, the victim of which was Master Victor Compton, the 14 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Compton. The lad with his mother and his two brothers had just arrived home in their carriage from visiting a neighbor. The horse had just been unhitched and was being turned into a pasture for the night when the animal unexpectedly kicked sideways, striking the lad full force on the chest in the region of the heart. He fell and passed away almost instantaneously. A physician was sent for but his services were not required. The little chap was a fine manly lad who was much esteemed in the home and among his companions. Only last Sunday he had been confirmed by Bishop MacKenly and received his first communion. To his grief-stricken parents, brothers and sisters the deep sympathy of the community is extended."2,3

She was a kind loving friend to all who knew her and will be greatly missed in the community in which she lived. She was laid to rest in St. John's cemetery, St. Eleanors, the funeral services being conducted at the home and church by Rev. Charles DeW. White of Summerside. The pallbearers were Horace Andrew, Richard Hunt, Hubert Howatt, and Stanley Tanton.Obituary (Agriculturist): There passed away at St. Eleanors on Monday last Mrs. Compton, wife of Hubert Compton, at the ripe age of 78 years. Mrs. Compton, who was one of the best known and most respected residents of St. Eleanors, was a daughter of the late Captain Thomas, of Bedeque Farm. Early in life she married Mr. Compton, by whom she had a family of twelve children, who, with the bereaved husband who is an invalid, are left to mourn. The children are Mrs. Geo. W. Carr, Miscouche; Mrs. A. L. Brittan, Nellie Compton and Percy Compton, Boston; A. P. Compton, Milwaukee; James Compton, Priestly Compton and Adolphe Compton, Portland; Minnie Compton, Boston; Mrs. Howatt and Stanley Compton, St. Eleanors; Mrs. Kennedy, Saranac Lake, N.Y.

The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon and the exceptionally large attendance indicated the esteem in which the deceased was held by all classes and creeds in the community in which she had resided for so many years and the sympathy that is felt for those who mourn. The services in St. John's church were conducted by the rector, Rev. T. DeWolfe White, and he also officiated at the burial services. The pallbearers were Richard Hunt, Horace Andrew, Stanley Tanton and Collins Craswell.7,8,3
