Obituary: "McFarlane, Charles
Agriculturist - 16 October 1909, page 5, col. 2
A death that is for many reasons an especially sad one occured yesterday at Charlottetown when Charles McFarlane of Fernwood passed away. About two months ago Mr. McFarlane, who never rallied from the serious injuries which he sustained last fall at Bedeque, entered a hospital in Charlottetown for treatment, and it was there that the end came. To add to the distress of the situation his wife is seriously ill and it is feared she will not long survive the shock caused by her husband's death.
Mr. McFarlane was 59 years of age and was highly esteemed in the section of the province where he resided, as well as by all who knew him elsewhere, and he had an extensive acquaintance. He was a brother of Councillor Nathan McFarlane of Summerside, and leaves a family of four sons who have widespread sympathy in the great affliction that has come upon them. The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. There will be only a brief service at the house because of Mrs. McFarlane's serious illness. The regular service will be held in the Presbyterian church at North Bedeque at three o'clock."2

Obituary: "McFarlane, Mrs. Charles [nee Waugh]
Summerside Journal - 20 October 1909, page 5, col. 1
Although the event was not unexpected, the community was shocked yesterday morning when it became known that Mrs. Charles McFarlane of Fernwood had passed away the evening before. It was only on Saturday that the mortal remains of her husband were committed to the earth, and she never rallied from the shock his death gave her. Mrs. McFarlane had been ill about a year, and some time ago underwent an operation. It was thought for a time that this operation would prove successful, but the disease again manifested itself with fatal results. Mrs. McFarlane was a daughter of the late Samuel Waugh of Wilmot and was 49 years of age. She was well known and highly esteemed and widespread sympathy is felt and expressed for the bereaved family who in so short a time have been called upon to mourn the loss of father and mother."2,3
