The deceased, who was formerly Melinda Ramsay, daughter of the late Robert Ramsay and Annie Ellis of Freeland, was a woman held in the highest esteem in the community in which she lived and in which she was a zealous worker in the various activities of the United Church.

Besides her husband she leaves to mourn a family of five sons and six daughters, viz: Mrs. D. S. Ramsay (Florence), Northam; Mrs. A. B. MacFarlane (Hazel), Bedeque; Mrs. E. C. Rayner (Harriet), Travellers Rest; Mrs. Roy Gorrill (Sylvia), Southampton, Mass; Edison, Tyne Valley; Sadie, Lynn, Mass; Uriah, Schenectady, N.Y; Huestis, Troy, N.Y; Mrs. Herman McFarlane (Belle), Bedeque; Stewart, Kensington and Earl on the homestead. Brothers and sisters surviving are: Thomas, Malden, Mass; Robert, Coleman, P.E.I; Mrs. James Hartigan, Boston; Mrs. Neil McPhee and Mrs. Wm. Lockhart, Coleman; and Mrs. W. N. Heustis, Summerside. Deceased is also survived by 38 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The date of the funeral is not yet decided."6,7

Obituary: "Funeral service for Mrs. Susan B. MacLean, 89, oldest resident of Ontonagon was held from the Presbyterian Church with Rev. William Yauch officiating. During services, Miss Anna MacAdam sang The Old Rugged Cross.

The deceased was formerly Susan Ramsay and was born in Charlotte Town, Prince Edwards, Canada on April 29, 1847. She spent her early years of her life there and in 1865 she was married to Henry MacLean.

Shortly after they came to the United States and lived in California, Omaha, Nebraska & Ashland for a few years before coming to Ontonagon 60 years ago where she made her home since.

Mrs. MacLean was one of the organizers and a charter member of the Presbyterian Church, Ontonagon and had always been an ardent worker. She was a member of the Dorcas Society of the church and also a charter member of the Macabees.

Mrs. MacLean was always in good health and her death came as a shock in the community. She had been suffering from the flu for a few weeks and was taken to the Ontonagon hospital a week ago but her condition was not considered serious until just the day before her death Friday, April 23.

Surviving are 1 son Gordon - Ontonagon and 4 daughters, Mrs. M. Lee & Mrs. M. Warren of Everett, Washington, Mrs. C. Potter of Spring Lake, Michigan and Mrs. B. Stone, Chicago, 8 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren. Mr. MacLean preceded her in death 25 years ago on April 23, 1912.

Pallbearers were Harry Vincent, Rudolph J. Watt, Austin Lowe, Walter O'Brien, Con Stripe & Norman Pennock.

The members of the Macabees Lodge attended the funeral in a body & had charge of the funeral at the cemetery.
